Chicago's
corruption is exceeded only by Detroit. The city budget has been a
slush fund for raiding by corrupt politicians for decades. Now that
comes to an end. It is going to be brutal. The other option is to
bulldoze it all into a huge pile and make a landfill out of the whole
thing forbidding all human habitation. This is the direct result of bad
leadership and a corrupt culture. Detroit used to be one of the most
prosperous cities in the nation. Now... like the sinkholes opening in
Florida... just as bad, just not as visible.
I read a lengthy article on the city's history from its heyday until now. Very tragic and sad. So much greatness and wealth destroyed. All of those beautiful old buildings destroyed or sitting derelict. Many of the Rust Belt cities where affected in a similar manner. Over the years there have been countless efforts to "revitalize" Detroit. Bring in more business, build new buildings, but never dealt with what was under the surface. Like putting a band aid on a gunshot wound.
