Sheltering in Place is Living Death

I’ve read a lot of posts for and against reopening the country. Many attacking those who protest or want to open businesses back up as selfish and reckless. It got me to thinking.

There are those wanting to reopen, yet they’re being classified as selfish or worse. There are also those that rely on all kinds of people to supply them while they cower in fear at home. Isn’t that also being selfish?

You expect your garbage to be picked up.

You expect the grocery store to be open so you can get food to feed your family.

You expect truck drivers to supply the stores.

You expect farmers, meat packers, fruit and vegetable pickers all to keep food in that grocery store.

You expect Amazon to still ship all the things you’re ordering while you sit at home shopping.

You expect the delivery driver to leave it on your doorstep.

You expect your phone to work, your power to stay on, and your mail to show up rain, sleet, or shine.

And most important, you expect the doctors and nurses to be there if you need them although many of them across the country have been furloughed because their units and services have been shut down while the entire system focuses only on COVID19.

The whole premise of shelter in place is based on the arrogant idea that others must risk their health so you can protect yours. There is nothing virtuous about ignoring the largely invisible army required to allow people to shelter in place.

I know there are some of you that are screaming mad about what I just said but stop and really think about what is allowing you to stay "safe" in your home.

I truly believe that with some common sense on my part, I could easily go back to life as it was. I want to go to restaurants, I want to get on stage and play, and yes, I want to see my hair stylist and massage therapist.

And yes, I could catch COVID-19. I could also catch the flu or a cold. I could get run over by a bus. I could get struck by lightning. We take risks everyday. If you choose to stay home, that is absolutely your choice. And please don’t start screaming at me about how I’ll just spread it. Why are you worried? You won’t get it because you’re staying in your home. Are you going to shelter in place every time a new strand of the flu happens?

Our economy can’t withstand much more of this. If our economy collapses, so will every other economy worldwide.

If that happens, you will see the rise of tyrants.

I absolutely don’t want people to die...from COVID or anything else. I want people to live.

But sheltering in place is not living

The Choice .... and there are no others

What we are fooling ourselves with is the idea that we can save lots of people from dying of a virus and have a civilization that survives and prospers.

The governor of Illinois who has no common sense whatsoever is overshooting.

Here's the truth...  pretty much no matter what in the end a couple hundred thousand people are going to die or we end up in a cultural changed of great depression worse than ever seen and thousands of people are going to die... more than the couple hundred thousand people that will die anyway.

I don't want people to die.  I really don't. I don't want my brother or sister to die. I don't want my wife to die.  I also don't want to leave a world for my kids and grandkids that kills them.

The choice is clear.  We must try hard to move to a world we can move towards.  It will not be the same. There will be risks. Many will die.

Yet... that's what wars do. Kill.  Most of the time it is young men.  This time it is the sick and old.

If you think the trade-off is not needed, you aren't thinking clearly.

I don't know if this is from HIM but it contains truth

From Trey Gowdy:

"I'm not saying Covid-19 isn't real... But Pay attention folks, there's much more going on here than what meets the eye. Is it a coincidence that just when the economy is booming, the stock market is setting record highs, we are winning the trade wars, school shootings have stopped, our nation is at peace, the Democratic party is a disaster and so is their likely nominee? (Biden). He hasn't a chance in hell & they're not about to let an outsider(Bernie) destroy their scheme.

It looks like Trump is a sure bet for reelection after fending off 3 years of investigations and impeachment, then all of a sudden world crisis pandemic. Stock market tumbles, companies are laying off employees, everything is closed and canceled, CEO's of giant companies are resigning and indictments are coming. Now they say there are a couple ways a President doesn't win reelection. Those are an unpopular war or a poor economy. But there is something larger going on here driving this sudden outbreak right after Trump beats an impeachment. Especially the fact that it (Corona Virus) originated in China who we are in a global trade war with; brought on by Trump. Let's not forget Biden's back door deals with CHINA as well. China doesn't want 4 more years of Trump either. It all seems rather convenient for the nations and opponents of our current President and economy 5 months before an election. Couldn't have hit at a more perfect time.

With the Democrats running out of campaign talking points, in light of no school shootings, no migrant caravans at the southern border, fighting in Syria winding down, North Korea not firing missiles and Trump beating a sham impeachment. The Corona Virus gave them one last hail Mary to try and point fingers at Trump with the clock winding down in 2020. This is almost the perfect fascist playbook. Control the population with fear-mongering and panic, control the media, spread propaganda and the fan-favorite disarm the population.

Oh, and did anyone notice that while they are mad as hell at Trump for not sending aid to Ukraine, they THEMSELVES voted AGAINST giving ANY emergency aid to all Americans ? Sorry but I don't think we are all going to die. Remember when Ebola was what was going to kill us all, and the media kept showing the piles of body bags that were prepared for the fallout. Then a month later it was totally forgotten. The common flu has killed more people this year already and the media is SILENT! A handful of deaths out of 320 million Americans and we are in panic tearing down our society and costing our economy billions in the wake.

It all just seems fishy, a little too well-timed if you ask me." - Trey Gowdy

Who is a Karen

I know several people who fit this MEME.  They are the reason for many of societies Ills

Where a similar insult like “OK Boomer” stereotypes a specific generation, calling someone a “Karen” draws on associations people have built around extremely common names. But the stereotype the name conjures — at least in the US — is limited mainly to white women in their mid-30s or 40s. The archetypal “Karen” is blonde, has multiple young kids, and is usually an anti-vaxxer. Karen has a “can I speak to the manager” haircut and a controlling, superior attitude to go along with it: Karen is a mocking slang term for an entitled, obnoxious, middle-aged white woman. Especially as featured in memes, Karen is generally stereotyped as having a blonde bob haircut, asking to speak to retail and restaurant managers to voice complaints or make demands, and being a nagging, often divorced mother from Generation X.

KAREN

Gives raisins to kids on Halloween

drives an SUV to carpool her kids to soccer practice... better hope the ref doesn’t make a wrong call because she will sue!

love to use snapagram to post her workout selfies

after a long day of talking to managers and driving her kids around she sits down with her mom friends at book club and drinks lots and LOTS of wine

“oh my god Karen do you really have to talk to the Burger King manager every time they forget to give you a ketchup packet.“

“LOL! Yes!! I have to Facebook and instasnap it to all my friends to make sure everyone knows to watch out LOL!!!”

MODELING

It looks as if the death rate from the virus is flattening fast.  I think we have seen the peak in exponential increase.

I don't know when it stops..  but at the current rate of increase.. if it doesn't fall more, we will lose about 70,000 by May 1.  I don't believe it will get there.

The exponent continues to decline. We have turned the corner

However you Die, you are Dead - no matter Race, Creed or Color

I am tracking the death toll that we are all obsessed over.  How many are dying of the virus. Or at least the reporting says so.

In the whole of the USA currently the toll is
18    34,687    1.1   32,823 actual
19    38,156    1.17   38,046  PEAK
20    41,972    1.08   41,114  Starting to slow
at the same rate of increase here is what it looks like:
21    42,906    1.04
22    45,051    1.05
23    47,304    1.05
24    49,669    1.05
25    52,153    1.05
26    54,760    1.05
27    57,498    1.05
28    60,373    1.05
29    63,392    1.05
30    66,561    1.05
1      69,889    1.05
I doubt with all my being it will get that far.  We'll see.

Yet at the same time Many are saying that an inordinate number of these deaths are taking a larger toll on people of Color.  I'm not sure about that.  But this much I do know.

In all of Illinois 1,290 have died of the virus.  877 of them are from Cook County.  Nearly 70% of all deaths in the county are African American.

This can't be helped.  There are many reason's why.  Yet at the same time.. the shootings and murders continue.

The toll on people of Color in Chicago from murders is way out of proportion.

These Charts are from a website that tracks urban shootings and murder.

While too many people in Chicago are dying of virus... the other virus lives on.
