Kinda makes me sad. We shop both stores and did when we lived in Germany. Karl has an apartment in Geneva IL. The Aldi HQ is in Batavia. Geneva St Charles and Batavia are considered the TRI CITIES. End of an era. I hope those who follow on after them will not mess it up. They have been genius in the model they developed. IF I can't find it at Aldi or TJ's I probably don't need it.

Good News from AZ

The good news about all the flap in AZ over illegal immigration is it is causing us to take a sober look at the situation and get away from the emotion in all this. I am in favor of the law that gives citizenship to people that were kids when brought here. Where the break point is, that's a question. 5, 10, 15, 20??...? If they made me king I would try to remove the incentives and let the market take it's course.

Bad Alliances

TGIF Today God Is First Volume 1, by Os Hillman
07-30-2010

"Woe to the obstinate children," declares the Lord, "to those who carry out plans that are not Mine, forming an alliance, but not by My Spirit, heaping sin upon sin; who go down to Egypt without consulting Me; who look for help to Pharaoh's protection, to Egypt's shade for refuge." Isaiah 30:1-2

Have you ever entered a business relationship with someone you knew you were not supposed to? Throughout the history of Israel, the people were called to come out of an old way of life. Egypt represented that old way; when things got tough, the Israelites reverted to what was comfortable. They always knew they could take a trip to Egypt and find what they lacked. Perhaps this was their reasoning: "If we can't get it accomplished under the new way, why not go back to the way we used to do it? At least we know we can get it there."

When God calls us into a walk of faith, we can expect to be tested in this walk. If we enter into alliances that God has not ordained, it will only bring heartache. Such was the case for Israel. "But Pharaoh's protection will be to your shame, Egypt's shade will bring you disgrace" (Is. 30:3).

Beware what you perceive as an alliance that may advance your business. It may actually bring you great distress if God has not directed you to align it. Ask yourself what the motive is behind this possible alliance. Make sure that it is not based on fear or a quick fix. Get confirmation that God is leading you to make such an alliance. Then you will not end up in the way of Israel, experiencing shame and disgrace.

If you wonder why so many Americans are attracted to Sarah Palin, just take a look at the crowd now nipping at her heels, doing its best to derail her appeal through personal attacks that are scurrilous. She s been a mayor and a governor, yet they say she lacks experience

Drunken Driving

I was picked up for Drunken Driving last night. Coming home from GWMI at about 1 in the morning suddenly there were red lights behind me. I pulled over. The police man quizzed me on where I had been. Church. Had I been drinking? I said yes but not alcohol. Then I explained. JESUS. He asked "what kind of a Church is THAT"? I just said pentecostal and endured an eye roll. I have the feeling I'm the the first drunk in the Spirit he arrested. He gave me a warning. I guess I'll have to sober up today. OR NOT. Maybe I'll frame it. It's been a long time since I've been that drunk.

We're gonna lose this one if we don't stop with the infighting. All we need now is for some third party pure conservative to enter the race. It's over. I know Kirk is a RINO. But for six years he might vote 60% for the right things. Sometimes being a conservative is painful

Parsing the Hinn Statement

Benny Hinn and Paula White have made a statement regarding their relationship and the scandal they have inflicted on us all. I parse it as follows:

"Because of my preeminent priority to my ministry and calling,

MY Ministry? Preeminent? Not much ego there is there. He has a ministry and he is called but he isn't any more important than anyone else

Paula and I have concluded that we should avoid the appearance

Little late for that Benny. You needed to get your appearances right long ago.

that our friendship is biblically impure or violates Scripture in any way," Hinn
wrote.

FRIENDSHIP? I have friends, male and female. I don't check into hotels and walk around holding hands with them. Not very convincing.

He added that the two had "independently determined

Except when you read Hinn and White's statements they mirror each other. No independently was harmed in the issuing of this statement.

that we will have no further social relationship

It's not social that taints the Bride of Christ

until such time as my divorce has concluded

Sounds like fighting for your marriage is off the plate. Guess a younger hottie seems better meat for the future.

and only if we feel direction from the Lord to do so."

FEEL is the operative word here. No common sense is involved.

If I sound a little irritated, it's hard enough to stand for Jesus in our culture than to have these two besmirching everything we fight for. Shame on both of them.

I hope they slink off into the dark.

REALLY, I mean REALLY???

They were photographed holding hands, checking into a hotel under an assumed name and later leaving together. Other than that there can be no truth to this story. Right? Right? I spent last weekend listening to Pastor Abe Huber describe the need for one on one discipleship particularly for SR leaders. Absolute Transparency. Vomiting up the filth we all inhale. I want such a relationship. I'm human and very flawed. Every single SR leader must have this or they will end up on the ash heap of history. IF this proves up, Hinn is finished. So is White. IF he had been accountable to someone who could hear his filth, pray for him and help him overcome he wouldn't be in this situation. God told me a long time ago, "I care so much for my sheep that I will take down any shepherd to protect them". Consider it done. Where is the fear of the Lord? Nemesis always follows hubris.

What say ye of the Christ? Even if you know about him, you can still end up in Hell.

“I am an historian, I am not a believer, but I must confess as a historian that this penniless preacher from Nazareth is irrevocably the very center of history. Jesus Christ is easily the most dominant figure in all history.” H.G. Wells, British author (1866-1946)

“I cannot say that Jesus was uniquely divine. He was as much God as Krishna, or Rama, or Mohammed, or Zoroaster.” Mahatma Gandhi, Indian political leader (1869-1948) “A man who was completely innocent, offered himself as a sacrifice for the good of others, including his enemies, and became the ransom of the world. It was a perfect act.” Mahatma Gandhi, Indian political leader (1869-1948)

“There is one very serious defect to my mind in Christ’s moral character, and that is that he believed in hell… It is a doctrine that put cruelty into the world and gave the world generations of cruel torture; and the Christ of the Gospels, if you could take him as his chroniclers represent him, would certainly have to be considered partly responsible for that.” Bertrand Russell, British philosopher (1872-1970)

“Christianity is the only religion on earth that has felt that omnipotence made God incomplete. Christianity alone has felt that God, to be wholly God must be a rebel as well as a king.” G.K. Chesterton, English critic and author (1874-1936)

“From my youth onwards I have found in Jesus my great brother.” Martin Buber, Jewish philosopher (1878-1965)

“As a child I received instruction both in the Bible and in the Talmud. I am a Jew, but I am enthralled by the luminous figure of the Nazarene….No one can read the Gospels without feeling the actual presence of Jesus. His personality pulsates in every word. No myth is filled with such life.” Albert Einstein, physicist and atheist (1879-1955)

“Jesus Christ is to me the outstanding personality of all time, all history, both as Son of God and as Son of Man. Everything he ever said or did has value for us today and that is something you can say of no other man, dead or alive. There is no easy middle ground to stroll upon. You either accept Jesus or reject him.” Sholem Asch, Jewish author (1880-1957)

“In Jesus, God wills to be true God not only in the height but also in the depth – in the depth of human creatureliness, sinfulness and mortality.” Karl Barth, Swiss theologian (1886-1968)

“A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic – on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg – or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God; or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to. C.S. Lewis, British author (1898-1963)

“In his own lifetime Jesus made no impact on history. This is something that I cannot but regard as a special dispensation on God’s part, and, I like to think, yet another example of the ironical humour which informs so many of his purposes. To me, it seems highly appropriate that the most important figure in all history should thus escape the notice of memoirists, diarists, commentators, all the tribe of chroniclers who even then existed.” Malcolm Muggeridge, British journalist (1903-90)

“Every person is Christ for me, and since there is only one Jesus, that person is the one person in the world at that moment.” Mother Teresa (1910-97)

“He might be described as an underprivileged, working-class victim of political and religious persecution.” Prince Phillip (born 1921)

“I accept the resurrection of Easter Sunday not as an invention of the community of disciples, but as a historical event. If the resurrection of Jesus from the dead on that Easter Sunday were a public event which had been made known…not only to the 530 Jewish witnesses but to the entire population, all Jews would have become followers of Jesus.” Pinchas Lapide, Orthodox Jewish scholar, Germany (born 1922)

“An unsurpassed master of the art of laying bare the inmost core of spiritual truth.” Geza Vermes, author (born 1924)

“If Jesus had been killed 20 years ago, Catholic school children would be wearing little electric chairs around their necks instead of crosses.” Lenny Bruce, American satirist (1925-66)

“It is as wholly wrong to blame Marx for what was done in his name, as it is to blame Jesus for what was done in his.” Tony Benn, British politician (born 1925)

“After the fall of so many gods in this century, this person, broken at the hands of his opponents and constantly betrayed through the ages by his adherents, is obviously still for innumerable people the most moving figure in the long history of mankind.” Hans Kng, German theologian (born 1928)

“Jesus Christ was an extremist for love, truth and goodness.” Martin Luther King Jr., American civil rights leader (1929-68)

“Jesus was the first socialist, the first to seek a better life for mankind.” Mikhail Gorbachev (born 1931)

“If Jesus came back and saw what was being done in his name, he wouldn’t be able to stop throwing up.” Woody Allen, American comedian (born 1935)

“We’re more popular than Jesus now.” John Lennon, Beatle (1940-80)

“2,000 years ago one man got nailed to a tree for saying how great it would be if everyone was nice to each other for a change.” Douglas Adams, British comic author and radical atheist (1952-2001
