Based on this photo and comparative analysis the Sanford police department Trayvon at the time of his death was 6 feet tall and 160 pounds. I was about that size when I graduated High School. I know what that size feels like.

During the Autopsy his weight was listed as 158 pounds.  His height as 5' 11"

There has been confusion on how tall Trayvon was.  It matters because some (including the media) have Trayvon eternally 11 years old.  He was old enough to enlist in the armed services.  (My son did with my permission).  Had this deal gone the other way the law would have prosecuted him as an adult.

Compromise will get you nowhere

Since shortly after its formation in 1988 the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America has been fixated on deviant sexual behavior, culminating in the endorsement of homosexual pastors in 2009, homosexual “marriage” in 2011, and the election last month of their first homosexual bishop.  Dr. James Nestingen, a highly respected scholar and retired ELCA seminary professor, recently concluded that promoting acceptance of deviant sexual behavior has actually replaced the Gospel of Jesus Christ as the primary mission and message of the ELCA.
Those within the ELCA demanding these radical changes asserted it is necessary for the ELCA’s very survival.  Supposedly, they simply must move into the 21st century on these issues, or otherwise they will be so out-of-step with modern society that it would mean the demise of their denomination.  By the way, this is the same deceptive reasoning behind similar disturbing changes recently in the Boy Scouts of America.
However, the ELCA has now released some startling statistics that show the exact opposite has actually happened:

• When the ELCA was formed in 1988 they had 5.2 million members, but they are now down to only 4 million members–a staggering loss of over 1.2 million members, or 23% of their membership.  They have also lost 1,500, or 13%, of their congregations, from approximately 11,000 to 9,500.  As they “celebrate” this year the 25th anniversary of the ELCA, the fact is that during that time they have lost more members and congregations than make up many entire denominations!
• Of these losses, over 500,000 members and 1,000 congregations have left the ELCA in just the last four years, triggered by their endorsement of homosexuality beginning in 2009.  This is actually the biggest denominational split in American church history, and is directly attributable to that decision.
• Another measure of the ELCA’s decline is that in 1988, 2.1% of all Americans were members of the ELCA, but by 2011 that figure had fallen to 1.3%.  The National Council of Churches reports that the ELCA has “the sharpest rate of membership decline” among all mainline Protestant denominations.  Like Avis car rental which used to advertise “We’re Number 2–But We Try Harder!” the LCMS has historically always been the second-largest American Lutheran church body.  However, at the ELCA’s current rate of losing members–nearly 6% in 2010–in just a decade the LCMS will surpass the ELCA as the largest American Lutheran church body, and a few decades after that the ELCA will cease to exist.
• Even among those congregations remaining in the ELCA average weekly worship attendance from 2003 to 2011 dropped 26%.  The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod has 2.3 million members and the similarly conservative Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod has 300,000 members, yet even with our smaller combined membership of 2.6 million the LCMS and WELS have more people actually sitting in the pews each Sunday than the ELCA with 4 million members.
• Donations to the ELCA on the national level were $88 million in 2008 but plunged to only $40 million in 2011.
• Luther Seminary, the ELCA’s largest seminary, located in St. Paul, Minnesota, announced that last year they had a $6 million operating deficit on a budget of $27 million.  This was due largely to a recent sharp decline in donations to the seminary, reportedlyincluding a couple that for many years had given $1 million a year to the seminary but stopped their donations after the ELCA’s endorsement of homosexuality.  The seminary was forced to cancel many of its programs and lay off a third of the faculty and staff.
• Since the ELCA’s endorsement of homosexuality, many other Lutheran church bodies around the world have severed their historic ties with the ELCA, and are instead seeking new relationships with the LCMS.  This includes many of the largest and fastest-growing Lutheran church bodies in the world, such as the Lutherans in Ethiopia with over 6 million members–nearly as many as all American Lutheran church bodies combined.  The center of world Lutheranism is shifting from Europe and America to Africa, Asia, and South America, and the LCMS is becoming the theological leader of these growing Lutheran church bodies.  While the ELCA is becoming increasingly isolated in world Lutheranism, at our national convention this month the LCMS will enter into formal fellowship with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Liberia, Siberian Evangelical Lutheran Church, and the Lutheran Church of Togo.

The Lord warns:
“There will be false teachers among you, who will surreptitiously introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them, bringing swift destruction on themselves.  Many will follow their shameful, licentious ways.”  (2 Peter 2:1-2)
“As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you formerly had when you lived in ignorance.  Instead, just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do, for it is written: ‘You shall be holy, for I am holy.’” (1 Peter 1:14-15)
“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2)
These passages show how misdirected and sinful it is to accommodate the church’s doctrine and practice to the world’s wicked ways.  It is also foolish and futile.
On the one hand, the world will never be satisfied–until Christians completely renounce their faith.  More importantly, the Lord will never bless such unfaithfulness to Him and His Word.
We see from the sad example of what’s happened to the ELCA–the biggest split in American church history–that whatever churches and other organizations such as the Boy Scouts imagine they will gain by giving in to the world is dwarfed by what they will surely lose.

The Myth of St Trayvon

 The left is spinning this as a narrative of American racism. Vital to that narrative is the image of Martin as an innocent boy, almost a child. The media did its part by never showing photos of the 6’2”, 17-year old with gold capped teeth that he was when he died, but only as a slim, 12-year old. 
The real Trayvon Martin is lost in the hagiography. He was no longer an innocent child. He chose his path, and had that fatal encounter not taken place, it was leading him into the criminal justice system.
Martin should have been arrested twice. If he had been, it might have changed his path. He was suspended twice from Miami Dade schools because he had burglary tools and possession of a dozen pieces of women’s jewelry.

Text messages recovered from Martin’s phone show photos of guns and Martin using drugs.  More disturbing are Martin’s text messages where he describes himself as a “gangsta,” talks about fighting, talks about buying and using drugs and asks a friend if he will share a .380. semi automatic pistol.

According to Shadowstats.com, the real unemployment rate is 23.4%. These numbers honestly account for people who are long past the end of unemployment benefits - people who are so depressed by the Obama depression that they can't stand to face rejection any longer.

Even more disturbing than the unemployment rate is the clear change in the way people are being employed. Consider that full-time employment plunged by 240,000 jobs in June. That means the number of Americans who want to work full-time - but are forced into part-time jobs because of the horrible economy - jumped 352,000.

The total is now over eight million, meaning the jobs that sustain a family are going, going... gone.

The full-time jobs are being replaced by low-wage, part-time jobs. While 144 million Americans were employed last month, only 116 million were employed full-time.

Do the math... With an adult population of 245 million people, less than half of the adults in the United States are in a full-time job.

I watched the news with glee on July 3rd when 33 million Egyptian men and women took to the streets to overthrow an oppressive Islamic government. An entire nation was being swallowed whole with loss of personal freedom and the degradation of their economy. It had reached a point where women couldn’t leave their home without fear of harassment… all in the name of Allah, of course. The United States was propping up this mess, for reasons I can’t explain.

Yet, in a moment the whole thing turned. I think it’s the miracle of the decade. It made me wonder if we would be so brave to stand for righteousness and defeat tyranny in our own back yard. I hope so.

Why not? – The deeper question is why believers are prone to not get involved. Jesus brings a revolution in individual hearts, and he’s commissioned us to “disciple nations.” What holds us back?

Dualism – is a philosophy term for separating the spiritual and the natural. The concept is that spiritual things are good and natural things are evil. Dualism is a few thousand years old, and its present form simply translates to the good things being prayer, worship, church, evangelism, etc. The other mountains are all considered contaminated (business, politics, entertainment, the arts, public education, etc.) Dualism causes Christians to falsely divide their lives into two compartments: secular and spiritual and to try and put all their focus on spiritual things.

Politics is a dirty business – Partly because we believers have been a little prone to abandon the political process; it is indeed a dirty process. That’s why we need to get on top of this mountain. Bribery is a practical reality in many nations. We have lobby system whereby political favor and votes are purchased. We even see Christians succumb to the corruption in US politics, partly because there is a powerful spirit behind it all. It’s still a giant we are well able overcome.

Fear vs. Courage – Confrontation is hard for all of us. Confronting the spirit of deception in the political mountain is not easy, but it is necessary. There is also a price. We’re being invited to establish the Kingdom in His power and in His wisdom. Though we may feel like grasshoppers we are well able to slay this Godless giant. When you see world politics from God’s perspective we have all the horsepower on our side. We just need to learn to use it.

The Sky is falling – Many believers adopt a prophetic “Chicken Little” outlook and point to everything bad that’s happening as though it’s all part of God’s sovereign plan leading to the rapture. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Kingdom is expanding on every front, and what happened in Egypt should have free people everywhere dancing in the streets. I can’t help but wonder if some of the youth rallies for prayer and fasting called One Thing in Egypt in the fall of 2012 laid a foundation for this jail break from oppression. An estimated two million people around the world watched the event online.

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Cor 3:17-18 NIV

The goal is Freedom – Freedom for hearts to choose their path is the real goal. I’m not really down on Muslim people at all. The 30+ million demonstrators are probably nearly all self-described Muslims. They just want to be free from religious oppression. In this case, freedom from sharia law. I wouldn’t want to live under that either… and for the record, I wouldn’t want to live under a government sponsored by the Southern Baptist Convention or the Catholic church or any other theocratic system, for all the same reasons. The Holy Spirit invites people into a relationship with Jesus that changes hearts and behavior; religion tries to box them into the right behavior with rules. It never works.

The price – Some are prone to sum up their political outlook as believing for the best, turning the other cheek and passively accepting whatever comes along. That road occasionally leads to a gas chamber. There really is a spirit and an ideology behind political and religious oppression that we are called to defeat – spiritually, ideologically, and practically (militarily, if necessary). To suggest that Jesus was passive in the face of such tyranny misses the point of His view of the Pharisees. He didn’t just call them names…

The United States is called to be the light and glory of the world. We have to credit an American ministry called Open Doors for their involvement with the Coptic Church in Egypt to sponsor the youth rallies. Open Doors is Brother Andrew’s ministry, a Dutch brother who wrote God’s Smuggler, who resides in California and who is now focused on the Middle East. Several events in October of 2012 were attended by over 50,000 youth and led by Egyptian Christians. I’m thanking God. I think we may eventually find out it was the seed that made a national difference.

On the other hand, the events of July 3rd in Egypt are notable miracles that were not anticipated prophetically or practically by the church. Our president and our press even appear to be caught off guard and on the wrong team for something God has done himself… with quite a bit of help from Brother Andrew and the Egyptian people. It’s time for us to get in the game and to join the right team, individually and as a nation. It’s time to take back the political mountain in the United States. It’s OK to be a political Christian and take a stand for righteousness. It’s OK to express your heart in the political mountain and get involved.

Rewiring of the Mind - to Realize the SKY IS THE LIMIT

No one argues about the need to rewire a person's mind who suffers from addiction to drugs, alcohol, sex or food.  There are support groups, books and professional services to help people get over an addiction.  It is a process of rewiring.

Science tells us we can change a habit in 21 days.  I contend it will take a bit longer.  There is a mental stronghold that must be broken to have that habit changed.

There is a mindset that constrains people from achieving all that they were designed by their creator to become.  People are born with a dream, a desire, a drive and they eventually go to the grave having that unrealized dream buried with them six feet below ground.

This is not an evil mindset, it is one however that if not overcome, people will stay stuck in a comfort zone that is as binding as if they were in a prison.

I am talking about the false sense of security that comes from the desire for a steady paycheck with benefits.  The worst is a government job.  Many people who try to break free of a steady job to start their own business will stay stuck forever as withdrawal symptoms from the weekly paycheck overcomes the desire for Independence and prosperity.  This applies to a lesser extent to commissioned sales or incentive based compensation jobs.

It becomes a problem when our culture builds it's expectations around your need to have a steady paycheck to buy a house, a car, a credit card, anything.  It causes people to revert to safety rather than steop out.  Potential is lost.

It is good to have some steady income, but use that only as a stepping stone.  One cannot long live on a single income stream.  We need to develop several income streams.

Even at my age I have at 5 income streams right now.  All different.  All unique.  When one fails to provide, another picks up the slack.  I want to develop more.

IF you ever hope to break out of your dependence on a salary, you will need to get your mind rewired.  That means weaning yourself away from the steady dependable reliable predictable income source and move toward a dynamic expandable creative unlimited income that is just right over there. It takes time.  It takes determination.  It takes direction.

Choose well.  You will always be a wage earner, not a wage payer if you stay where you are today.  The choice is yours.  You are the doorway to the opportunity God has provided for you.  Opening or closing that door is YOUR choice.  What you do with it is really up to you, the sky is indeed the limit... but the sky is unreachable on a salary.

Casualties in the Trayvon Martin... George Zimmerman affair

Trayvon Martin wasn't the only victim that night in Florida.  There has been much collateral damage since.  Damage that has generated additional casualties.  A casualty by definition is not a dead person or thing.  It is something rendered injured or ineffective.

These are the casualties that are the result of the killing of Martin, arrest, prosecution and trial of Zimmerman and outcome:

News Media who portrayed Martin as an 11 year old boy when he was a 17 year old late teen.  Truth was a casualty.

Race Relations that have been on the fence too long, took a spill into the dark side.  Those who make a living at stirring hate emerged.  Race Driven Lynch mobs in social media have been disgusting.  "Kill Zimmerman" and "Trayvon deserved it" are memes that has driven a wedge.  Progress that had been made was a casualty.

The young girl, Trayvon's friend who testified.  You couldn't help but grasp how lost this poor girl is.  She will live her life (however long that is) in the shadow of this case.  CNN news commentators argued after her time on the stand that black English as spoken, read (not) and written (not) by her is a valid use of the English language.  Culture is a casualty.

The rumors, misinformation and disinformation about the evidence in this trial and the guilt or innocence demonstrated by same was hashed and rehashed by amateur lawyer wannabes who do not grasp the principles of legal procedures.  On TV I saw one man begin to rail about what HE would ask if HE were the prosecutor.   Ignorance of the process is the results in bad judgement.  Sound Judgement is a casualty.

People's certainty of guilt or innocence or Zimmerman or Martin's culpability in all this has demonstrated how we much we lack objectivity.  Our constitutional rights demand objectivity in these things.  Presumed innocent until?  It seemingly has become impossible to look at a situation, remove the emotion, and tell ourselves the truth about an event.  A couple of weeks after the whole thing blew up in the media and people were buying Hoodies to wear in protest, I warned of what is about to happen, how this would turn out as the facts were developed.  I was right because I had no dog in the fight.  I was objective.  Most were not.  Objectivity is a casualty.

When our President chose to take sides in this as was NOT his right, he's supposed to be a leader, he must stay out of these things.  He chose the wrong side - again.  Having the office doesn't make you a leader, character does.  Leadership was a casualty.


There are other things... but in the end the real casualty is justice.  Our Justice system has been swayed by public opinion.  This should never have gone to trial.  This has shown how poorly things are run.

The apostle Peter lived in a time and place where in the name of all things good, bad things were being done to him and his fellow believers. In the midst of attempting to survive through these bad things, Peter told his readers to "live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day He visits us". (1 Peter 2:12) Again, Peter's instructions might have been hard to take back then. Doing good while others are doing evil to you doesn't come easily to any of us.

In 1 Peter 2:14 Peter says something else about doing good and doing evil. He says that government exists "to punish those who do evil and to commend those who do good".

Our society, like the Roman society in Peter's day, defines matters of good and evil differently than Christians. What is seen as good to Christians isn't necessarily seen as good to an anti-Christ culture. Christians define good and evil from a fixed Biblical standpoint. Our culture defines good and evil from a fluid humanistic standpoint. Matters of good and evil vary from place to place, time to time, and person to person. These differing definitions cause conflict.

Part of doing good in a Biblical sense is speaking out for what we know to be Biblical truth, as the first generation Christians did. Standing up for truth is good. In fact it's our Biblical mandate. The apostle Paul taught us to speak this truth, albeit in the most loving way possible. (Ephesians 4:15)

There are a number of issues today where the world defines good and evil differently than Christians, abortion and gay marriage being two such issues. The time has come when our refusal to follow society's lead on these and other issues is seen as intolerant, bigoted, and evil. Refusing to perform a same sex wedding ceremony may seem Biblically good to us, but our anti-Christ culture sees it as evil. So, as Peter clearly stated, we should be aware of the fact that government will punish those who they define as doing evil. That places Christians in a painful predicament. When our doing good becomes doing evil in the eyes of society, as it is fast becoming the case, we must follow Peter's instructions. We don't chicken out and hide our heads in the sands of ignorant bliss. We boldly stand up for the Biblical truth. We love those who oppose us. We accept the consequences of our refusal to participate. We understand that the resulting suffering is a calling from God, so we're thankful to follow in the footsteps of our Lord and Saviour. (1 Peter 2:21)

None of us likes thinking about these things. I would rather be raptured away to heaven before any hint of this stuff reaches our doorstep, but it's a bit late for that now. It's already at our door, fumbling around with the door handle. There's no use ignoring it and pretending it's not there. Ignoring the reality of the world around us is not only unscriptural, it's spiritual suicide. We won't be able to hide behind our blissful ignorance when the anti-Christ culture crashes through the Christian cocoon some of us are hiding in. Take Peter's words seriously and prepare yourself for the coming conflict.
