Yesterday when going into the courtroom I was asked to surrender my cell phone. I am in court a great deal, mostly as an expert witness. Ten years ago when cell phones became ubiquitous you could carry your phone into the court room, you just couldn't use them. THEN, you could have your phone but not if it had a camera, but attorneys and professionals could keep theirs.
THEN, individuals had to surrender their phone, but attorneys and professionals got to keep theirs, yesterday, nobody got to keep their phone at all.
It's like the TSA. Once you cede a little power to an authority, they will take it all the way to the limit. Be very careful what you give up.
REMEMBER, the seat belt laws were originally only if you were stopped for something else. NOW, they can stop you and ticket you if they see you without a seat belt on. It's not about the intent. It's about the slippery slope.
