The END

Last night an Ambulance silently rolled thru our neighborhood. Lights were flashing.. but nothing else. It stopped at a neighbor's door. Rita. I knew her pretty well. She liked to speak German.. so we did. She died at home. Dementia had taken her a couple years ago. Not that old.. (relatively speaking). 80s. Over the nearly 20 years of living here we have buried 30 of our neighbors that we knew about.. and some just passed without our knowing. I know it's inevitable. I know we will all step from time into eternity. That's why I wrote my little book "Facing the End". We will all face an end, and for Rita it was last night. No profundity here. Just the realization that the end is near...er for me at least.
