Jim Rogers: European Bailouts May Lead to Another World War

A continuation of bailouts in Europe could ultimately spark another world war, says international investor Jim Rogers.

As an alternative, he recommends a combination of capitalism and socialism to weed out weak European banks and companies and to support the strong.

“This is how we got into World War II,” Rogers tells Yahoo, referring to Europe’s handling of its financial crisis.

“Add debt, the situation gets worse, and eventually it just collapses. Then everybody is looking for scapegoats. Politicians blame foreigners, and we’re in World War II or World War whatever.”

The Rogers solution: “Let the people who have failed, go bankrupt,” he says. “The banks and bondholders would lose money, but then you start over.”

That’s classic capitalism, Rogers says. “Bailing out zombie companies and banks has never worked. Look at Japan."

But free markets alone can’t solve the problem, Rogers says. Governments must help choose the winners and losers – and quickly.

“If you wait two years from now, five years from now, when no government has any credibility and nobody will give you any more money, then it's finished. You better get yourself a rifle and head to Asia."

But the prospect for Europe doing more than kicking the can down the road now looks bleak.

Countries in the eurozone are split, with creditors like Germany continuing to focus on the need for austerity, while borrowers seek more assistance and want to focus on growth.

Rogers isn't alone in predicting such a dire scenario.

Bailouts and loose monetary policy won't create lasting economic improvements but will push up inflation rates that will send the economy tanking and wealthy investors seeing half of their investments wiped out, says Marc Faber, publisher of the Gloom, Boom and Doom report.

The Federal Reserve has pumped trillions of dollars into the economy to stimulate it, while the White House has spent heavily to fuel growth as well.

The government, however, won't be able to prop up the economy forever, and all that borrowing will come due. When that support fades, the economy and markets will retreat and retreat hard, creating massive losses for investors, especially when inflation rates rise due to the sheer volumes of liquidity in the system.

"I think somewhere down the line we will have a massive wealth destruction. That usually happens either through very high inflation or through social unrest or through war or credit-market collapse," Faber recently told CNBC.

Black mob violence hits Nordstrom's

Hoodie-wearing suspects loot and flee upscale shopping mecca

Black mob violence has taken on a new note in Portland, Ore. It’s not the unsuspecting passersby or the corner convenience store that’s the target here.

It’s Nordstrom’s.

Just weeks ago, a group of 10-15 hoodie-wearing blacks allegedly stole clothing and raced out of the store. Their actions were captured on video.

So far, the evidence makes it looks like just one more of the hundreds of episodes of racial lawlessness that have taken place in more than 60 cities over the last three years.

But on a local forum, the reaction gave the situation a truly unique flavor:

“As an employee of a Portland area Nordstrom I have to wonder why you think that we care?” said Jason Handleman. “Things like this make work interesting and I hold no ill-will toward anyone in this group. Our security personnel spend more time concerned with employees than clientele, and honestly most employees, at my store, would not help them if they were in an altercation.”

A Nordstrom manager did not respond to a request for comment.

But other Portland commenters joined in the forum. From an anonymous participant, “Rich white high school students wait, and grow up to flash mob our economy and legally manipulate our Congress with unregulated lobbying. They are taught by their rich white parents that they are helping grow the economy through deregulation and small government.

“Funny, the Oregonian does not report on the rich old white guys who flash mob and are hijacking our economy and schools. It’s well reported in many respected and less corporate newspapers: Guardian, BBC, Aljazeera, Le Monde, and Democracy Now.”

Nordstrom is located in the Lloyd Center mall, the site of two violent episodes over the last two years.

In April of 2011, two black men were arrested for murder after shooting into a gang of black teenagers who had just left the mall, leaving one dead.

The year before, 20 black men harassed the customer of a shoe store in the mall before shots rang out. No one was hit.

“The past two weeks have seen four shootings tied to the African American gangs, the most recent an alleged attempted murder in an athletic shoe store at the mall Wednesday evening,” said the Oregonian, in a rare admission of the race of the alleged criminals.

The Nordstrom theft was one of at least four recent “flash robs.”

In April, a mob of 20 black people chased a white couple into a convenience store. The local papers described the ensuing assault and robbery as a “fight.” The mob left when one of the employees sprayed them with “bear spray.”

All on video – almost identical to a crime from a few days before.

In June, a bigger crowd attacked an Albertson’s grocery store, following the same play book: Theft, destruction, intimidation. And no arrests, despite the video.

National Federation of Retailers says flash robs attacked one in 10 stores last year – half were hit several times.

Even so, local defenders abound: “Come on folks, they are not thugs, they are students of YOUR Public Education System,” said Rich of the Albertson’s mob in the comments section of the Oregonian.

Portland has also seen its share of public racial violence on the city’s MAX public transit system.

In January of this year, a 14-year old white girl was beaten down by three black women while about a dozen other black people took videos, shouted racial epithets, and encouraged the assault.

Four people were arrested, including a mother of two of the assailants. The mother was convicted of giving police false information while trying to hide her daughters.

Despite the video evidence, the district attorney declined to file hate-crime charges.

When a local TV station went to a community college to do a news story featuring a class discussing hate crimes, at least one of the students said the decision was fine with her because all involved were “brats” and besides, she did not see what happened before the video was taken. The white girl may have provoked it, said the student.

In June, four black people were arrested for assaulting a police office at a MAX station.

The most recent attacks are also the largest – and to some the most troubling.

It was just three months ago the Oregonian, reporting on a police shooting in Laurelhurst Park, assured their readers the park was otherwise safe.

“Laurelhurst, a neighborhood of stately homes surrounding one of Portland’s loveliest park lakes, is better know for its seasonal tree colors than for violent crime,” said the paper.

“Fern Wilgus, Laurelhurst Neighborhood Association’s public safety chairwoman, said the tennis court area has attracted sporadic fights and robberies over the years.”

But never mind about that. The paper’s willingness to minimize the racial violence seemed similar to how a social work characterized dozens of violent episodes in Philadelphia, some involving more than 1,000 black people: “That’s just kids blowing off some steam.”

And of course there was the homosexual rape in Laurelhurst park following a carjacking that began after a Latino man got lost near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Two of the three attackers were identified as black.

Still, people seemed surprised when in June, a group of 150 black people – described by the newspapers as drunken teenagers – assaulted several people in the park, robbing at least one of them.

The newspaper – and the TV broadcast – may have shied away from describing the attackers, but the Internet site of a local TV station was a little more revealing:

“Both fights involved groups of black teenagers randomly attacking people in the park.”

The following night, a group of 20 to 30 black people, came upon three people on a tennis courts at the park: “Some of the teens began throwing bottles onto the court and calling out to them. They said the teens then began fighting with them.”

When politically correct, tolerant, and culturally diverse societies agree to Muslim demands for their religious privileges, some of the other components soon creep in as well.

Here's how it works:

As long as the Muslim population remains around or under 2% in any given country, they will be for the most part regarded as a peace-loving minority, and not as a threat to other citizens.
This is the case in:

• United States -- Muslim 0.6%
• Australia -- Muslim 1.5%
• Canada -- Muslim 1.9%
• China -- Muslim 1.8%
• Italy -- Muslim 1.5%
• Norway -- Muslim 1.8%

At 2% to 5%, they begin to proselytize from other ethnic minorities and disaffected groups, often with major recruiting from the jails and among street gangs. This is happening in:

• United Kingdom -- Muslim 2.7%
• Spain -- Muslim 4%
• Thailand -- Muslim 4.6%

From 5% on, they exercise an inordinate influence in proportion to their percentage of the population. For example, they will push for the introduction of halal (clean by Islamic standards) food, thereby securing food preparation jobs for Muslims. They will increase pressure on supermarket chains to feature halal on their shelves -- along with threats for failure to comply. This is occurring in:

• France -- Muslim 8%
• Philippines -- Muslim 5%
• Sweden -- Muslim 5%
• Switzerland -- Muslim 4.3%
• The Netherlands -- Muslim 5.5%
• Trinidad & Tobago -- Muslim 5.8%

At this point, they will work to get the ruling government to allow them to rule themselves (within their ghettos) under Sharia, the Islamic Law. The ultimate goal of Islamists is to establish Sharia law over the entire world.

When Muslims approach 10% of the population, they tend to increase lawlessness as a means of complaint about their conditions. In Paris, we are already seeing car-burnings. Any non-Muslim action offends Islam and results in uprisings and threats, such as in Amsterdam, with opposition to Mohammed cartoons and films about Islam. Such tensions are seen daily, particularly in Muslim sections in:

• Guyana -- Muslim 10%
• India -- Muslim 13.4%
• Israel -- Muslim 16%
• Kenya -- Muslim 10%
• Russia -- Muslim 15%

After reaching 20%, nations can expect hair-trigger rioting, jihad militia formations, sporadic killings, and the burnings of Christian churches and Jewish synagogues, such as in:

• Ethiopia -- Muslim 32.8%

At 40%, nations experience widespread massacres, chronic terror attacks, and ongoing militia warfare, such as in:

• Bosnia -- Muslim 40%
• Chad -- Muslim 53.1%
• Lebanon -- Muslim 59.7%

From 60%, nations experience unfettered persecution of non-believers of all other religions (including non-conforming Muslims), sporadic ethnic cleansing (genocide), use of Sharia Law as a weapon, and Jizya, the tax placed on infidels, such as in:

Unfortunately, peace is never achieved, as in these 100% states the most radical Muslims intimidate and spew hatred, and satisfy their blood lust by killing less radical Muslims, for a variety of reasons.

It is important to understand that in some countries, with well under 100% Muslim populations, such as France, the minority Muslim populations live in ghettos, within which they are 100% Muslim, and within which they live by Sharia Law. The national police do not even enter these ghettos. There are no national courts, nor schools, nor non-Muslim religious facilities. In such situations, Muslims do not integrate into the community at large. The children attend madrasses. They learn only the Koran. To even associate with an infidel is a crime punishable with death. Therefore, in some areas of certain nations, Muslim Imams and extremists exercise more power than the national average would indicate.

Today's 1.5 billion Muslims make up 22% of the world's population. But their birth rates are higher than the birth rates of Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, and all other believers. Muslims will exceed 50% of the world's population by the end of this century.

Well, boys and girls, today we are letting the fox guard the hen-house. The wolves will be herding the sheep!

Theologically - no . . . Because his allegiance is to Allah, The moon God of Arabia

Religiously - no. Because no other religion is accepted by His Allah except Islam (Quran, 2:256)(Koran)

Scripturally - no. Because his allegiance is to the five Pillars of Islam and the Quran.

Geographically - no. Because his allegiance is to Mecca , to which he turns in prayer five times a day.

Socially - no. Because his allegiance to Islam forbids him to make friends with Christians or Jews..

Politically - no. Because he must submit to the mullahs (spiritual leaders), who teach annihilation of Israel and destruction of America , the great Satan.

Domestically - no. Because he is instructed to marry four Women and beat and scourge his wife when she disobeys him (Quran 4:34)

Intellectually - no. Because he cannot accept the American Constitution since it is based on Biblical principles and he believes the Bible to be corrupt.

Philosophically - no. Because Islam, Muhammad, and the Quran do not allow freedom of religion and expression.. Democracy and Islam cannot co-exist. Every Muslim government is either dictatorial or autocratic.

Spiritually - no. Because when we declare 'one nation under God,' the Christian's God is loving and kind, while Allah is NEVER referred to as Heavenly father, nor is he ever called love in The Quran's 99 excellent names.

Therefore, after much study and deliberation. ... Perhaps we should be very suspicious of ALL MUSLIMS in this country. - - - They obviously cannot be both 'good' Muslims and good Americans. Call it what you wish, it's still the truth. You had better believe it. The more who understand this, the better it will be for our country and our future. The religious war is bigger than we know or understand.

It has been said that there are two ways to conquer and enslave a nation.  One way is by using the sword, and the other is by using debt.  Fortunately, America is not in danger of being conquered by the sword right now, but America is being conquered by debt.  The borrower is the servant of the lender, and today we owe China more than a trillion dollars.  By running a gigantic trade deficit with us, China has been able to become incredibly wealthy.  We have begged them to lend us back some of the money that we have sent them and this has made them even wealthier.  Now China is gobbling up U.S. real estate and U.S. assets at an astounding pace.  In fact, some cities are in danger of becoming completely dominated by Chinese ownership.  One of those cities is Toledo, Ohio.  In many "rust belt" areas, real estate can be had for a song, and the Chinese are taking full advantage of this.  America was once the wealthiest nation on earth, but now we are drowning in debt and we are being sold off in chunks to the highest bidder.  Is this the legacy that we are going to leave for future generations?

The Obama Outrages: Government as Black Swan

This is an outrage. Obama is a disaster in every way...here's a short list. HE is the black swan event we all feared.

• The GSA scandal, in which bureaucrats charged with improving government efficiency decided to treat themselves to a hugely expensive lark in Vegas, of all places, which the president himself had once made politically incorrect.
• The Secret Service scandal, in which agents got caught, literally, with their pants down among foreign floozies.
• The Environmental Protection Agency scandal, in which one of the agency’s regional bigs was found to have told his minions to “crucify,” like the conquering Romans, gas and oil companies at random to terrify them into submission.
• The Justice Department scandal known as “Fast and Furious,” in which drug traffickers south of the border received lethal firepower in what many believe was a bid to discredit the right to bear arms in this country.
• The National Labor Relations Board’s telling a major manufacturer, Boeing, that it couldn’t open a new plant in a “right-to-work” state.
• The ongoing scandal of the Energy Department’s backing a whole string of losers with taxpayer funds under the rubric of “alternative energy.”
• The ObamaCare overstretch in which the president snapped his fingers at the backlash over his contraception mandate (itself a major and gratuitous blow against separation of church and state) and said, in effect, “the insurance companies will pay for it,” without citing constitutional authority.
• The EPA’s seeking to bankrupt the coal industry apparently on “global warming” authority.
• The Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights, which shocked civil libertarians by ordering colleges to use the relatively lax “preponderance of evidence” standard against males accused of rape on campus or risk losing federal funds.

Look, I grew up in a state where everyone had a gun, concealed or otherwise. North Dakota. You didn't want to tick anyone off or threaten. Mam and Sir was the order of the day for young people. We had like 3 murders a year other then Family Matters.

Every person in Chicago should be armed and able to defend their community... That will cure our crime wave. I know this goes against all the normal "get guns off the street" meme....but I know it's true. Works every time it's tried. Get guns ON the Street in the hands of good guys and watch the murder rate drop like a rock.

Further, they propose to calculate your happiness, by asking you where you fall on a three-point scale, 1-2-3: “not too happy,” “pretty happy,” “very happy.” They then want to move to technical manipulations of the numbers, showing that you, too, can be “happy,” if you will but let the psychologists and the economists show you (and the government) how.
 
On a long view, understand, it is only recently that we have been guiltlessly obsessed with either pleasure or happiness. In secular traditions, such as the Greek or the Chinese, a pleasuring version of happiness is downplayed, at any rate in high theory, in favor of political or philosophical insight. I know many who wonder,”Are these the ‘End Times’?” Is the world about to come to an end? Is evil triumphing everywhere? Are we all going to burn up in a fiery Nuclear Holocaust? Is the Lord planning on sending plagues upon His enemies? Should we build family bunkers, store food, buy gold, turn inward and not look outward? Should we now prepare for the worst?

In the New Testament Bible passage above, Saint Paul [Saul of Tarsus] was admonishing the early Christian Church in Thessalonica to stay focused on the truth, to be prayerful, to avoid idleness, and to stand firm in the teachings of the Christ. By staying focused on their Faith, Paul promised that no matter what happened, the Lord of Hosts would strengthen them and protect them from the “evil one.”
Many would be tempted today to say we are in the “last days.” Indeed, each generation has some or many causes to believe that their era represents the last days. This has a very great danger of becoming a logical fallacy called petitio principii, “assuming the initial point” … or, more commonly, “begging the question.” [“Begging the question” does not mean that we are begging that a question be asked as is commonly thought.] Petitio principii is sometimes called circular reasoning. The premise would take the form: “We are in the Last Days because we are in the Last Days.”
And because such a premise is unsupportable, a second fallacy, post hoc ergo propter hoc, usually follows. This fallacy essentially says “after this, therefore because of this.” Because one event followed another, that subsequent event must have been caused by the first. The first thing you know, we are in the last days! The confusion is understandable in an environment where lies and deceit abound.
I wish to make clear that I do not believe these present times are the “Last Days.” And, while I do believe that President Obama is a huge fraud, an unmitigated liar, and a deceiver, I do no believe him to be the anti-Christ … at least not yet. No. Even though his idolizing followers may believe Obama to be a messiah, he is not. Nor has the Prince of the Air empowered him with any miracles, signs and wonders that I can detect.

A pretty rough appraisal of President Obama...and true

Years from now, historians may regard the 2008 election of Barack Obama as an inscrutable and disturbing phenomenon, the result of a baffling breed of mass hysteria akin perhaps to the witch craze of the Middle Ages. How, they will wonder, did a man so devoid of professional accomplishment beguile so many into thinking he could manage the world's largest economy, direct the world's most powerful military, execute the world's most consequential job? Imagine a future historian examining Obama's pre-presidential life: ushered into and through the Ivy League despite unremarkable grades and test scores along the way; a cushy non-job as a "community organizer"; a brief career as a state legislator devoid of legislative achievement (and in fact nearly devoid of his attention, so often did he vote "present"); and finally an unaccomplished single term in the United States Senate, the entirety of which was devoted to his presidential ambitions.

He left no academic legacy in academia, authored no signature legislation as a legislator. And then there is the matter of his troubling associations: the white-hating, America-loathing preacher who for decades served as Obama's "spiritual mentor"; a real-life, actual terrorist who served as Obama's colleague and political sponsor. It is easy to imagine a future historian looking at it all and asking: how on Earth was such a man elected president?

Not content to wait for history, the incomparable Norman Podhoretz addressed the question recently in the Wall Street Journal: To be sure, no white candidate who had close associations with an outspoken hater of America like Jeremiah Wright and an unrepentant terrorist like Bill Ayers, would have lasted a single day. But because Mr. Obama was black, and therefore entitled in the eyes of liberaldom to have hung out with protesters against various American injustices, even if they were a bit extreme, he was given a pass. Let that sink in: Obama was given a pass - held to a lower standard - because of the color of his skin.

Podhoretz continues: And in any case, what did such ancient history matter when he was also so articulate and elegant and (as he himself had said) "non-threatening," all of which gave him a fighting chance to become the first black president and thereby to lay the curse of racism to rest?

Podhoretz puts his finger, I think, on the animating pulse of the Obama phenomenon -affirmative action. Not in the legal sense, of course. But certainly in the motivating sentiment behind all affirmative action laws and regulations, which are designed primarily to make white people, and especially white liberals, feel good about themselves.

Unfortunately, minorities often suffer so that whites can pat themselves on the back. Liberals routinely admit minorities to schools for which they are not qualified, yet take no responsibility for the inevitable poor performance and high drop-out rates which follow. Liberals don't care if these minority students fail; liberals aren't around to witness the emotional devastation and deflated self esteem resulting from the racist policy that is affirmative action. Yes, racist. Holding someone to a separate standard merely because of the color of his skin - that's affirmative action in a nutshell, and if that isn't racism, then nothing is.

And that is what America did to Obama. True, Obama himself was never troubled by his lack of achievements, but why would he be? As many have noted, Obama was told he was good enough for Columbia despite undistinguished grades at Occidental; he was told he was good enough forthe US Senate despite a mediocre record in Illinois ; he was told he was good enough to be president despite no record at all in the Senate. All his life, every step of the way, Obama was told he was good enough for the next step, in spite of ample evidence to the contrary.

What could this breed if not the sort of empty narcissism on display every time Obama speaks? In 2008, many who agreed that he lacked executive qualifications nonetheless raved about Obama's oratory skills, intellect, and cool character. Those people - conservatives included - ought now to be deeply embarrassed.

The man thinks and speaks in the hoariest of cliches, and that's when he has his Teleprompters in front of him; when the prompter is absent he can barely think or speak at all.

Not one original idea has ever issued from his mouth – it's all warmed-over Marxism of the kind that has failed over and over again for 100 years.

And what about his character? Obama is constantly blaming anything and everything else for his troubles. Bush did it; it was bad luck; I inherited this mess. It is embarrassing to see a president so willing to advertise his own powerlessness, so comfortable with his own incompetence.

But really, what were we to expect? The man has never been responsible for anything, so how do we expect him to act responsibly?

In short: our president is a small and small-minded man, with neither the temperament nor the intellect to handle his job.

When you understand that, and only when you understand that, will the current erosion of liberty and prosperity make sense. It could not have gone otherwise with such a man in the Oval Office.

How NOT to do marketing

Seven marketing sins

Impatient... great marketing takes time. Doing it wrong (and rushed) ten times costs much more and takes longer than doing it slowly, but right, over the same period of time.

Selfish... we have a choice, and if we sense that this is all about you, not us, our choice will be to go somewhere else.

Self-absorbed... you don't buy from you, others buy from you. They don't care about your business and your troubles nearly as much as you do.

Deceitful... see selfish, above. If you don't tell us the truth, it's probably because you're selfish. How urgent can your needs be that you would sacrifice your future to get something now?

Inconsistent... we're not paying that much attention, but when we do, it helps if you are similar to the voice we heard from last time.

Angry... at us? Why are you angry at us? It's not something we want to be part of, thanks.

Jealous... is someone doing better than you? Of course they are. There's always someone doing better than you. But if you let your jealousy change your products or your attitude or your story, we're going to leave.

Of course, they're not marketing sins, they're human failings.

Humility, empathy, generosity, patience and kindness, combined with the arrogance of the brilliant inventor, are a potent alternative.

There ARE NO houses being built... too much inventory

Without a doubt the market is clearing out excess inventory albeit at a slow pace. We can look at markets even here in SoCal where short sales dominate the sales activity and are being priced to move. Yet you have those that are underwater (1 out of 3 in California with a mortgage) who simply sit in their homes continuing to pay their mortgage on their inflated asset. It is amazing the length of time that distressed sales have made up over half of all sales. I was digging through my data and found that for SoCal, since the summer of 2008 distressed sales (foreclosure resales and short sales) have made up roughly 50 percent of all sales each and every month. Four years where troubled properties have been the majority of the sales market.

As many of you are fully aware, location does matter in real estate and single family housing starts for California have not improved:

So you likely can take away from this that nationwide homes are moving at a brisker pace to the point where home builders are actually going back into the market. In California with a big backlog of shadow inventory and inflated prices relative to incomes, home builders are largely absent from the single-family market.

I have to ask the question no one is asking: does the community where these thugs come from bear any responsibility for producing and releasing them? Is a failing cultural paradigm supported by our pop culture really where your great grandfather wanted this to go? Where are the men who at one time would have scared hell out of these punks by telling them the truth. Kill someone with a weapon in IL, it's 40 years MANDATORY MINIMUM SENTENCE. Rob someone with a weapon, 6 years minimum, 30 maximum. This kid in this story will do serious time. This crime wave can only be stopped by people with the credibility to stop it. I know this goes against the grain, but locking up the leaders of the gangs is the wrong thing to do. IF you know the street, you know I'm right. Ya gotta have someone to talk to.

Maybe now that the gangs of marauders have invaded we'll see concrete action. These aren't swedes from Andersonville. Let's quit hiding behind political correctness. Truth is our friend if we face it. Time to turn the toxic tide.
