A
factoid, since I have lived in IL Chicago has lost 300,000 people in
population, the suburbs have gained 2 million in population. The
demographic of the suburbs is becoming more like Chicago used to be. IF
this doesn't change Chicago will become even more irrelevant as a
voting block. There is no shortage of housing in Chicago, there is a
shortage of affordable housing. With 300,000 people missing, since 1980
there are a lot of unused buildings that could be shelter. The high
taxes, high fees (read that parking), high crime, high fuel costs and
high rents in high rent area, a couple like us would have move to the
city long ago.. but can't and won't. Until Chicago get creatively
competitive as a place to live, it will continue to decline..
