Are the Midwestern Floods the Judgement of God on America?

I have a "friend" in blogdom who has often said that the USA is under judgement for many things. He would point to the war, I might point to Abortion.

I'm not fully convinced. If it were so there would be judgement all over the earth.

In any case there is a pastor from the Southern Baptists who might agree with my friend. Judgement is here.

I think that when the New Orleans Hurricane came it was Judgement at some level. It certainly has worked out that way. If the floods are judgement it might be in contrast.

I know what the Judgements of God look like. I have seen them in Scripture. This is a bad flood. I'm not convinced it's judgement.

It's not 'either ...or". But the PRIMARY task, indeed,is the task to be a witness, to evangelize with the Gospel which gives hope for this life and the life to come. It is the Gospel and Christ's love for us which gives us the motive to love our neighbor and help the one in need. The world usually doesn't inquire about our doctrine FIRST (not usually). Jesus said, "by THIS will all men know you are my disciples, if you love one another". Schaeffer called that "the mark of the Christian". Jesus said, "Let your light shine before men that they may see your good works and give glory to the Father in heaven". When people see the 'good works' (feeding hungry, helping those in need, etc.), do whom do they give glory? Not to the Father in heaven! They give glory to you, to the one who feeds and helps! So what is the "light" which is to shine? The "light" is the illumination I give by directing the glory away from me to Jesus, who is My Substitute-Savior and the Savior of the person who is incorrectly giving glory to me. And I share that Gospel message with him/her. I am only the 'moon', reflecting the ight of the "Sun", Jesus.

Why did God create this latest flood that has/will devastate the lives hundreds of thousands if not millions of people and reek havoc on our economy, kill the innocent, split families, ruin business, stretch our crumbling safety net to the point of no return, waste an enormous amount of our food supply and lay fallow vast swaths of our heartland?

God is one crazy cat.

Do you think He has had enough of the red state voters and this is His way of saying enough is enough, vote Dem in ‘08?

God did not CREATE the floods in Iowa, etc. He PERMITS the forces of His creation to interact. We do not know for what purpose. Now we see through a glass darkly, but THEN we shall know, as Scr. says. When hurt and damage, and catastrophes and persecutions take place, what can Christians do? Blame God? That's what unbelievers do. Atheists can't blame God, because for them there is no God.

You didn't answer your own question anonymous.

What can Christians do to stop this uncaring God who would destroy His own creation?

The answer for Christians and Non-Believers is Repent.
