How to Pray for your Children - especially wayward Sons

In a conversation with a good friend yesterday, we were discussing mistakes people make in praying for their children. He has a wayward son. He speaks from experience and by the anointing of the Holy Ghost.

Here's his prescription :

  • Pray that God would supernaturally touch him. Love him. Bring him to Himself. A single touch from God can change everything. It did for me. It did for him, it can for his son.
  • Do NOT confess his sin or wayward state before God in prayer. "Lord you know what a loser my son is, what a bad kid he is etc etc etc." Just pray for him. Love him like Jesus loves him.
  • It's better to Pray in Tongues regarding him. English will cause you anguish. Pray in the Tongues and you will be less likely to confess negatively or speak curses over him. It's a safe place and the Spirit will pray thru you interceding for your son in ways you never could have.
  • Trust God to fulfil his word concerning your son. Listen for a word from God. Trust the power of the Holy Spirit to bring it to pass. It's not about you, it's about him.
  • Love him. Don't lose contact. Stay connected. You are the only father he knows now. Don't bail him out, just love him. Don't preach, God thru his Spirit will draw him.
