Conservatives (and I was one) were convinced that the pre-election polls were wrong, because the partisan breakdown showing samples of D+7 and D+8 couldn't possibly reflect the electorate in what we were still convinced as a center-right nation? Turned out those samples did indeed reflect the electorate, much to our horror, and that is forcing us to grapple with the uncomfortable possibility that America has at least momentarily become a center-left nation.
Maybe the entertainment industry reads it the same way, and believes that people of faith have become so marginalized in an increasingly secular society that it is no longer beyond the pale to portray the risen Christ touting an assault rifle and slicing people's heads in half. They wouldn't have dared to air something like this even 10 years ago, let alone 20 or 30. Now they don't hesitate in the slightest.
