Targeting jobless is out of line. Demeaning the nation's unemployed is a tasteless political tactic — one not backed up by facts

In the chicago Tribune today there was an article by Rex Huppke

Targeting jobless is out of line.
Demeaning the nation's unemployed is a tasteless political tactic — one not backed up by facts

Unless you are an on line tribune subscriber you will have to google it to read it.

It's labor day. I have a question for those who support the jobless.

IF it is because of an ailment, or a deficiency, or some other problem not their doing then you are an angel.

IF it is because they simply do not want to work, then what make you of the Biblical Admonition, "if they do not work, they should not eat'. I'm talking about men here.

I have an example. I ran into an old friend. She lives in the suburbs with her husband. I know them both well. Love them. In order not to be misunderstood, they are Anglo and they are Christians... big time Christians.

IF you saw them in the grocery store, they look like me.

The problem is, HE, the husband, not yet 50 doesn't want to work any more. They aren't making it. Sometimes he takes on a part time job as a waiter or such and if he makes a few hundred bucks, he feels like he has done his part. They don't make it. Once already bankrupt. She makes all the money. She loves him. They have been married a long time. He is healthy as a horse... just really lazy.

She hustles hard doing whatever she can to make a living, but between the little bit he brings in, and her income they scrape by most months except when they don't.

OH he ONCE had a good job. But it was really hard work.. so now he just does nothing.

I don't want to see a divorce. I want to see him get off his rear. IF she were your friend what advice would you give? How can she get this lazy bum off his bum.

YES some that are unemployed are unemployed by choice not chance. These deserve our disdain and ridicule.

He has skills... he just doesn't want to work. He's a really nice guy. When people talk to him about this, he makes no real excuse. He's a charmer.

So, should he eat? Labor Day is for those who work... or should we honor those who do not?

What say ye?

so many in America have been "trained" not to work, no desire to work.... they 'work' hard to "know the system" for handouts, from government or whomever. Parents have the responsibility to get children working, and quit playing i tunes.
....a grumpy old man wrote this. h.h.
