Two Funerals and a Wedding

Like I guess much of the rest of the world I got up early (3AM) and watched the Pope’s funeral. All 3 hours. I had never heard that much Latin. Wonderful stuff.

The response of the crowd was terrific. Orderly and Enthusiastic. That’s how the Holy Spirit does things.

The Italians should be proud of how they handled this. Free water to those in line. Tent Cities. Medical Clinics. Order without oppression.

I wondered how it might be if this were in Chicago. I’m a big fan of Chicago but it is the city on the make. Always has been.

  • Water would have been $5 a bottle and you can’t bring in your own.
  • There would have been two lines, one for the plebes and one for those with clout.
  • For a hundred bucks you could buy into the shorter line.
  • Box lunches would have been on sale for $20 each.
  • ACLU would have objected to using public streets for a religious purpose.
  • The union wouldn’t have let the designated pallbearers carry the Pope’s body.
  • If you didn’t have medical insurance you would be out of luck getting health care from heat stress.
  • There would have been 30 metal detectors and strip searches to go into St Peters to see the Pope’s body.

Thank God for the Funeral being in Rome. Well done you Italians.

It reminded me of the Terri Schaivo funeral. You didn’t see it? No wonder. We have the attention span of a Gnat in this country. That’s our problem. We’re so worried about Michael Jackson’s perversion we can’t see beyond our nose.

The other non event appropriately eclipsed by the Pope’s funeral is the wedding of Prince Charles and “??” Camilla. Don’t they have justices of the peace in Britain? Couldn’t they just get it over with; don’t bore us, no white dresses, no priests taking the name of the Lord in vain? Make it legal and go away…PLEASE. Go back to grouse hunting and have a nice day.
