- His decision in 2001 to jettison the Kyoto global warming treaty
- Enhanced interrogation of terrorists
- Rebuilding of presidential authority, badly degraded in the era of Vietnam, Watergate, and Bill Clinton
- Bush’s unswerving support for Israel
- No Child Left Behind (NCLB), the education reform bill
- Second inaugural address in 2005 that American foreign policy (at least his) would henceforth focus on promoting democracy around the world.
- The Medicare prescription drug benefit
- John Roberts and Sam Alito. In putting them on the Supreme Court and naming Roberts chief justice
- He strengthened relations with east Asian democracies (Japan, South Korea, Australia) without causing a rift with China.
- The surge. Bush prompted nearly unanimous disapproval in January 2007 when he announced he was sending more troops to Iraq
I am a bit wobbly on 5 and 7. NCLF was not great. Prescription Drug? Don’t think so and I could use it.
What say you?

I think the significance of the confirmation of Supreme Court justices is substantially underplayed. I suspect that at some point in the not too distant future the Court will be asked for its opinion on the actions Congress has taken in bailing out American corporations. I think that there is potential for some landmark decisions. Fortunately both Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Alito are extremely intelligent and thoughtful men.
