People think I support Mitt Romney simply because is a republican

There are many things I admire about Mitt Romney:

  1. He is a family man, loyal and loving of wife and children
  2. He has raised up some fine young men as sons
  3. He is loyal to his church, even was on the mission field for them as is required
  4. He has been successful in business more than once, had to make payroll
  5. He has held elective office and governed a troubled state with positive results
  6. He has managed a large complex organization (The Olympics) with success
  7. He has a family heritage that speaks solid conservative values
  8. He is in spite of his heritage a self made man - it was a demand of his father
  9. His life is an open book, we know more about him than almost anyone
  10. He has a deep understanding of economic realities and knows how to make them work for good.
  11. He's a good speaker and takes issues on without notes

His record is such that it is hard for me to dislike the man for himself. He certainly is fully well qualified to become President of the United States. That much is clear.

Yet, there are things that bother me. I wish they weren't there.

  • He implemented a model of socialized medicine I don't approve of..one that is now replicated in part by Obamacare.
  • He lacks the conservative core convictions that I wish he had. He can be squishy
  • He is free market driven but may have some tentacles in business that will be troublesome as a president.
  • Sometimes when he speaks I have a sense that what I am hearing has been focus group vetted
  • He has supported positions in the past that are not what he supports now, at least by he says. He was once Pro Choice. Now not.
  • He is the Republican Establishment's Choice for POTUS...that's not a good thing
  • His heterodox religion is strange, but so was JFK's at the time. I recall well.
  • His capacity to be blown about by the wind of popularity will cause him to be weaker than I wish he were. Fear of man is a snare.
  • He has not surrounded himself with the people he will need to govern well..yet
  • He has not yet demonstrated the fire in the belly that he will need to win.

Yet for all that, he has one attribute that trumps all his negatives. He is not at heart a socialist nor does he lean toward communist values. He doesn't believe government is the answer to everything. IF he has a conservative congress (House and Senate) and a populace that demands it, he can undo some of the destruction that has been wrought the last four years we have a chance to survive as a nation. We are so close to falling off the edge of the earth, while I don't think he can save us alone at least politically, he won't press the accelerator down and drive us over the cliff like the crazed Thelma and Louise President we are suffering now.

In other words, Romney's biggest attribute is, he ISN'T Barack Hussein Obama.

Therefore, I will do all in my power to see he is elected President of the USA. I am willing to set aside my misgivings for the weaknesses for the better. All change is not improvement, this much we have learned to date, but there is no improvement without change.

I am hoping for a change for the BETTER than we have now in the White House
