I have known for a long time that the whole global warming train was being driven by a Marxist control and command political group led by Al Gore. I am now being proven right. I hope NO ONE actually believes in Global Warming any more. Unfortunately a few do. Maybe I can save them from the delusion:

On May 19, 2009, record low temperatures were recorded in 28 states, more than half the states in the United States of America. Many of these record low temperatures are the lowest in 100 years, and some the lowest in 115 years. Iceagenow.com, a web portal tracking global temperatures reports, “If there had been record warmth in 28 states, your would have seen ‘we're-causing-global-warming’ headlines plastered across the front page of almostevery newspaper in the country, and TV hosts would have gleefully announced the dire news. . . . But had you even heard about this?”

In an April 2, 2009 article, retired U.S. Navy physicist and engineer James A. Marusek writes: “The sun has gone very quiet as it transitions to Solar Cycle 24…. We are now at a crossroad. Two paths lie before us. Both are marked with a signpost that reads “Danger”! Down one path lies monstrous solar storms. Down the other path lies several decades of crushing cold temperatures and global famine.” “A quiet sun will cause temperatures globally to take a nose-dive. We will experience temperatures that we have not seen in over 200 years, during the time of the early pioneers.

Pravda Blames American Churches for USA Descent into Marxism

...like the breaking of a great dam, the American decent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple, excuse me dear reader, I meant people.

True, the situation has been well prepared on and off for the past century, especially the past twenty years. The initial testing grounds was conducted upon our Holy Russia and a bloody test it was. But we Russians would not just roll over and give up our freedoms and our souls, no matter how much money Wall Street poured into the fists of the Marxists.

Those lessons were taken and used to properly prepare the American populace for the surrender of their freedoms and souls, to the whims of their elites and betters.

First, the population was dumbed down through a politicized and substandard education system based on pop culture, rather then the classics. Americans know more about their favorite TV dramas then the drama in DC that directly affects their lives. They care more for their “right” to choke down a McDonalds burger or a BurgerKing burger than for their constitutional rights. Then they turn around and lecture us about our rights and about our “democracy”. Pride blind the foolish.

Then their faith in God was destroyed, until their churches, all tens of thousands of different “branches and denominations” were for the most part little more then Sunday circuses and their televangelists and top protestant mega preachers were more then happy to sell out their souls and flocks to be on the “winning” side of one pseudo Marxist politician or another. Their flocks may complain, but when explained that they would be on the “winning” side, their flocks were ever so quick to reject Christ in hopes for earthly power. Even our Holy Orthodox churches are scandalously liberalized in America.

The final collapse has come with the election of Barack Obama. His speed in the past three months has been truly impressive. His spending and money printing has been a record setting, not just in America’s short history but in the world. If this keeps up for more then another year, and there is no sign that it will not, America at best will resemble the Wiemar Republic and at worst Zimbabwe.

Then came Barack Obama’s command that GM’s (General Motor) president step down from leadership of his company. That is correct, dear reader, in the land of “pure” free markets, the American president now has the power, the self given power, to fire CEOs and we can assume other employees of private companies, at will. Come hither, go dither, the centurion commands his minions.

So it should be no surprise, that the American president has followed this up with a “bold” move of declaring that he and another group of unelected, chosen stooges will now redesign the entire automotive industry and will even be the guarantee of automobile policies. I am sure that if given the chance, they would happily try and redesign it for the whole of the world, too. Prime Minister Putin, less then two months ago, warned Obama and UK’s Blair, not to follow the path to Marxism, it only leads to disaster. Apparently, even though we suffered 70 years of this Western sponsored horror show, we know nothing, as foolish, drunken Russians, so let our “wise” Anglo-Saxon fools find out the folly of their own pride.

Again, the American public has taken this with barely a whimper…but a “freeman” whimper.

So, should it be any surprise to discover that the Democratically controlled Congress of America is working on passing a new regulation that would give the American Treasury department the power to set “fair” maximum salaries, evaluate performance and control how private companies give out pay raises and bonuses? Senator Barney Franks, a social pervert basking in his homosexuality (of course, amongst the modern, enlightened American societal norm, as well as that of the general West, homosexuality is not only not a looked down upon life choice, but is often praised as a virtue) and his Marxist enlightenment, has led this effort. He stresses that this only affects companies that receive government monies, but it is retroactive and taken to a logical extreme, this would include any company or industry that has ever received a tax break or incentive.

The Russian owners of American companies and industries should look thoughtfully at this and the option of closing their facilities down and fleeing the land of the Red as fast as possible. In other words, divest while there is still value left.

The proud American will go down into his slavery with out a fight, beating his chest and proclaiming to the world, how free he really is. The world will only snicker.

Why is there Evil in the World?

"If you, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand" (Psalm 130:3).

One of the most common questions every person wrestles with in life is this: "God, if You are loving, just, and all-powerful, why do You allow good people to suffer?" Many choose not to believe in God because they cannot adequately explain this question. Evangelist Billy Graham addressed this question in his book Answers to Life's Problems:

We do not know all the reasons why God permits evil. We need to remember, however, that he is not the cause of evil in this world and we should therefore not blame Him for it. Remember that God did not create evil, as some believe. God created the world perfect. Man chose to defy God and go his own way, and it is man's fault that evil entered the world. Even so, God has provided the ultimate triumph of good over evil in Jesus Christ, who on the cross, defeated Satan and those who follow him. Christ is coming back and when He does, all evil will be ended forever and righteousness and justice will prevail.

Have you ever thought about what would happen if God suddenly eliminated all the evil in this world? Not one person would be left, because we are all guilty of sin.

Whenever we suffer, we should remember that the Son of God went before us, drinking the cup of suffering and death to the dregs. Because Christ is fully man and fully God, we know that God understands our fears, sorrows and suffering. He identifies with us. Most important of all, the Father has given us the gift of His Son so that we don't have to die and suffer forever in eternity.

Because Jesus suffered and died for us, our suffering can be made like His -purposeful and meaningful. Evil, suffering and death came into the world when the first man and woman listened to Satan and committed the first sin. Evil was never part of the Garden of Eden. The moment Adam and Eve crossed the boundary of God's command, evil became the terrible reality of this world.

There are some questions that will remain unresolved until we are able to meet face to face with our Creator in Heaven.

A Nine Year Old Presidential Belief System

President Obama has the belief system of a nine year old child. He believes that:

• Wind can replace coal
• Global Warming is real
• Nice talk will stop terrorists
• Good Speech's impress North Korea
• Mandating Cafe Standards means something in the real world
• Looking good even when incompetent compensates for the incompetence
• Being liked is more important than doing right
• Government can run companies better than businessmen
• Spending results in prosperity
• Taxes balance budgets
• He can overthrow the economic and political without resistance

This is a dangerous man who believes in myths and theories because he has no real world experience.

According to a recent study, the USA is the tenth MOST optimistic country in the world.

Sunny outlooks are most prevalent in Ireland, Brazil, Denmark, and New Zealand.

The United States ranks No. 10.

Optimism is lowest in Zimbabwe, Egypt, Haiti and Bulgaria.

Nearly 90 percent of people around the globe expect the next five years to be as good or better than life today, the study found. And 95 percent expect their life in five years to be as good or better than it was five years ago.

You don't know what you got till it's gone.........

I had lunch yesterday with a young man from the nursery. He invited his girlfriend to join us. These are kids around 18 yrs, just out of school. Nice kid. Nice Girl.

She was as sweet as anyone in the world. He didn't treat her as well as she deserved. Was brusque. Didn't pay her attention.

She put up with it.

She may end up the mother of his children. She may be the one. And he treated her like small change.

A crime. If someone comes along who treats her well.... well she'll be gone. And he'll wonder why.

Everybody has a story - her's is good but not extraordinary

I grew up around extraordinary people with extraordinary stories.

War heroes, People who were destitute and rose above it, people who were disabled and made life work in spite of it all.

I appreciate Judge Sotomayor's life story. It's a good one. It's just not better than many I know personally. Many from my own family.

So, let's get over the hype, how about talking about her qualifications and viewpoints. What does it take to be a member of the supreme court. Does she have it. Is she a problem in jurisprudence. I'm not impressed with the story above her ability or lack of it.

Why do I have a sinking feeling that President Obama doesn't have a clue on North Korea?

North Korea seems to be thumbing his nose at the western world since it has nearly no leadership in place willing to deal with them.

They blow off nukes, fire up forbidden nuke plants and shoot multiple missiles in the air.

If we had someone in charge who had a clue and a spine we would be dealing with this. We don't.

This is sad.

David Brooks gets a nose full - even though he is not a conservative

I have very little time for David Brooks. He is way off the conservative homing beacon.

But, he has written a well crafted piece in the NYT that describes accurately the atmosphere where Sith Lord Obama commands and controls in true Marxist theology the minutia of our economy.

Then the president leads the executives out onto the White House lawn for the announcement ceremony. Often, the president will still be carrying the riding crop and the pliers used in the private negotiation. He moves to the microphone while the executives take their pre-assigned places behind him, the jingle of their leg shackles blending with the dulcet tones of spring. I thought one hospital executive was so moved by the occasion that he had slipped into catatonic shock, except that he was blinking “Save Me! Save Me!” in Morse code to his shareholders.

Some Faith for Healing is not as Good as others

The young 14 year old and his mother who have been on the road hiding from Chemotherapy because they believe in some form of alternative religion based on the Indian (with a feather not a dot) religion of Nemenhah.

There is a great deal of consternation about all this. Should the boy be forced to take chemo? Should his desire to follow his religion be honored. Should the mom be charged for running away.

Now the boy is in custody and will be forced to take Chemo.

What is interesting is a month ago a young girl about the same age as this boy died after the parents and the girl relied on prayer for healing.

There was universal condemnation.

I have a feeling that Christian Scientists and Jehovah's Witness's days of objecting to treatment are about over.

I personally believe in divine healing but I also believe sometimes God even uses Doctors.

Somehow this all seems suspiciously like bias against Christians and tolerance for something far less. That's the way of the world isn't it?

Memorial Day 1959

I have memories.

It was in the year when my parents died. Ellendale had Memorial Day parades. Color Guards. I was just 14. We marched in the parade.

The military was made up of those who wore their uniforms that fit well a decade and a half before. World War Two was a fresh memory. So was Korea.

Those strong men who marched. Names I have forgotten but faces I have not. They were men who were not confused about what defense of our nation meant or it's important result.

The flags waved, the bugles blew, the men of Ellendale stood strong.

There was a confidence in seeing these mighty men. You had a sense that if anything bad came along the guns they carried could and would be placed in service once more and would repel any evil.

I know that was the impression of a child, a young impressionable man.

But it's still there. I suspect that Ellendale no longer has men of honor who make up the honor guard and march with guns in hand. There are few young boys who stand in admiration of those men. Most of those men are dead and gone now.

And we are weaker for it all.

Thank Almighty God for our vets.....every one.

Now it begins. The anti-christ spirit that was released last fall in now in full expression. Persecution and Imprisonment is about to follow. This will separate the true sheep from the goats. It's gonna get rough out there.

A campus evangelism group is stunned today, as a ministry event at a community college in Ohio resulted in four members being arrested, one on a felony assault charge that the ministry's leader claims is fabricated.

"I've done ministries like this at more than 200 universities," said Jason Storms, director of Faithful Soldier School of Evangelism, a ministry of Mercy Seat Christian Church in Milwaukee, Wis. "We train people to do evangelism, and I have never seen an incident like this."

Storms and a team of students earlier this week traveled to Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio, with signs, literature and a message of faith.

When they arrived, however, a student complaint led campus police to confront the evangelism team and demand that their signs and literature be put away in accordance with college policy. When two of the evangelists refused the order, however, insisting their materials were protected by the freedom of speech guaranteed in the First Amendment, the officers arrested them on charges of disorderly conduct.

"There are many times when police hassle us and intimidate or bully us on campus, and usually we stand them down and are successful in defending our rights to freedom of speech," Storms told WND. "I can count on one hand the number of times we've had an arrest situation."

Later in the afternoon, however, two more arrests followed, one on a now-disputed felony charge of striking a police officer.

Storms himself was detained by police, when after speaking freely with students on campus for a couple of hours, he approached Officer Michael Beane to inquire about the charges filed against the other two evangelists. Storms and Beane then got into an argument, resulting in the officer claiming he was being harassed and Storms being detained in a holding cell.

The situation escalated, however, when Officer Beane demanded that a member of the evangelism team surrender a cell phone that had been taping the incident.

Faithful Soldier student Katie Carroll refused to give up her phone and hid behind fellow evangelist team member Daniel Pollion. What happened next is highly disputed. Natasha Baker, director of public relations for the campus police force, told WND Pollion struck Beane in the face.

"We have witness testimonies, students who did see the officer being punched by one of the demonstrators and at that point [Pollion] was arrested," Baker said. "We have not had anyone file a police report stating otherwise."

The members of Faithful Soldier, however, tell a different story.

Pollion, who was released from jail today upon posting $2,000 bond, told the Dayton Daily News, "It can't be construed as assault or even attempted assault. They were on the offensive, not us."

Storms told WND his organization has witnesses of their own that say Pollion merely asked the officer to "chill out" when he was placed in a headlock and wrestled to the ground. Storms said Beane radioed in a phantom "fight" and phony charge that he had been assaulted.

"Three of our people were standing there watching the entire thing as well as Sinclair College students," Storms said. "We have numerous direct, eyewitness testimonies. There was no punch, no assault, nothing like that. It was just a crazy cowboy officer acting belligerently and making his third arrest of the day of a group of Christians peacefully trying to witness."

Baker told the Daily News, "It is a very serious matter and we don't have things like this happen often and it deserves our attention."

She also explained to WND that evangelists from Faithful Soldier had been on campus last year and were told then that while they have the freedom to talk to students, campus policy requires pre-approval of organizations bringing signs or literature.

"Because we do have the campus access policy and they did understand what that policy was before they came on campus," Baker said, "the officers had asked them to please remove their signs and stop handing out literature unless asked for by students."

Storms told WND the policy is unconstitutional and the evangelists were right to resist demands to put their tracts and signs away. He also believes that the enforcement of First Amendment issues is driven by an anti-Christian atmosphere on college campuses.

"When we first got out there, a young man complained and told us it was not right that we were out there," Storms said. "There are war protests that take place here where they scream about the war. There was an Obama rally here not too long ago. There are gay pride rallies that take place on this campus. Nobody gets offended by those things. The issue is not with our method; the issue is with our message."

Storms continued, "I would like to see the campus' freedom of speech policies changed, because it obviously has policies that aren't constitutional. I think they need to invest in a little more training for their officers in how to deal with First Amendment situations."

According to a statement from the college, external investigators will review the incident and report to school's president.

All four arrested evangelists, including Katie Carroll – who was arrested for obstruction for refusing to surrender the video – have been released on bond.

Completed in the Faith - Yet under construction

Peggy cleaned the garage yesterday. While doing so she came across a term paper from my first year in college. I got a B+. I would have been 18 years old.

It was on my belief in God as expressed in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, the church I grew up in. It was a doctrinal review. Reading this was like going back in the wayback machine. It was interesting to see what I thought was important in the Faith.

On one level, it's pretty good work. I'm guessing many people who attend the Lutheran Church today could not articulate what that 18 year old boy did back then.

However, as I read it, I see in it some Hubris, some dependence on Heritage and some incomplete development in the Faith.

I can honestly say there is not a core theology I reject that was espoused in that paper. All of them are fully in place. There is one difference however, I have become immersed in the Spirit of God. I am in HIM, and He is in me. We are intimate and known of each other.

I am more convinced of the Healing power of God than any other. I am more convinced of the word of Prophecy than I was and I am an example of being completed in the faith - under construction, from Glory to Glory, from Faith to Faith, by the Power and Grace of the Holy Ghost.

Now, if I could convince a whole lot of good Lutherans that there is SO much more, SO much they are missing, SO much that that if they just came in they would never be the same. They would be completed in the Lutheran Faith of their fathers....Yet under construction.

Jesus knew what was in the Samaritan Woman who tried to debate religion with Him (John 4) and went straight for her soul. Faith is not a talking point but a life-issue. The man who treats it as problematic proves nothing; he merely reveals his character. The world invents conundrums to gag Christians. They treat us like dartboards on which to score points. However, this woman had to deal with Jesus himself, not religion. Jesus is still the question, and he says, “Give me your heart, not your opinions.” He still confronts us today with a fact beyond debate. He is the truth; he cannot be a controversy. We cannot judge truth; it judges us.

Armed Resistance to the Collapse of Western Civilization??

I don’t like what I see. We have people in office overthrowing our form of government. We have a well armed angry resistance in the population. The pot is boiling. The rule of law is beginning to lose it’s power as lawbreakers rule.

What event, a swine flu outbreak, an attack like 9-11 or some other event would initiate martial law? How easily would we go into that dark night?

We are inching toward open armed resistance while the Bolsheviks are at the doors of our Mass Media, at the door taking away our rights, at the door destroying our national economy, seizing power under the guise of every ruse imagined or real.

This is what it felt like in 1933 in Nazi Germany as Hitler seized control. It was not a bloodless coup. How many will go quietly when it all comes down?

The Holy Spirit is a Gift, not a Goal!

Living in the Spirit does not mean a life of labour and perfectionism, inventing ways of self-denial to gain credit with God. Self-denial may be necessary in our service for God, but sacrifice for the sake of sacrifice is not a means of grace. That has been the error of all ascetics. Neither are we supposed to suggest that we have to struggle to be people of the Spirit, worrying about it daily. Perhaps we want to be known as a man of prayer or a woman of the Spirit. That is Pharisaic. Christ said, “My yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matt 11:30). He would know, for as a carpenter he once made yokes. His yokes did not chafe oxen, nor do they chafe us. And most people can cope with that.

It is absurd to be anxiously watching every moment exhausting ourselves trying to be Spirit-filled. The promise is that “the joy of the Lord is your strength” (Neh 8:10). Living in the Spirit we walk with God with a confident bearing, live more easily, and pray more easily. “Keep in step with the Spirit” is the advice found in Galatians 5:25. Remember, the Holy Spirit is a gift, not a goal.

Seven tips for making good conversation with a stranger

I posted before about tips for knowing if you're boring someone and tips to avoid being a bore. But while it might be fairly easy to avoid topics that are likely to bore someone, it's much harder to figure out what to say if you want to be interesting. Making polite conversation can be tough.

“So where do you live?”
“Chelsea.”
“Really. I live on the upper east side.”
“Great …”
Painful silence.

Here are some strategies to try when your mind is a blank:

1. Comment on a topic common to both of you at the moment: the food, the room, the occasion, the weather. “How do you know our host?” “What brings you to this event?” But keep it on the positive side! Unless you can be hilariously funny, the first time you come in contact with a person isn’t a good time to complain.

2. Comment on a topic of general interest. A friend scans Google News right before he goes anywhere where he needs to make small talk, so he can say, “Did you hear that Justice Souter is stepping down from the bench?” or whatever might be happening.

3. Ask open questions that can’t be answered with a single word. “What’s keeping you busy these days?” This is a good question if you’re talking to a person who doesn’t have an office job. It’s also helpful because it allows people to choose their focus (work, volunteer, family, hobby) — preferable to the inevitable question (well, inevitable at least in New York City): “What do you do?”

A variant: “What are you working on these days?” This is a useful dodge if you ought to know what the person does for a living, but can’t remember.

4. If you do ask a question that can be answered in a single word, instead of just supplying your own information in response, ask a follow-up question. For example, if you ask, “Where are you from?” an interesting follow-up question might be, “What would your life be like if you still lived there?” If you ask, “Do you have children?” you might ask, “How are you a different kind of parent from your own parents?” or “Have you decided to do anything very differently from the way you were raised?”

5. Ask getting-to-know-you questions. “What newspapers and magazines do you subscribe to? What internet sites do you visit regularly?” These questions often reveal a hidden passion, which can make for great conversation.

6. React to what a person says in the spirit in which that that comment was offered. If he makes a joke, even if it’s not very funny, try to laugh. If she offers some surprising information (“Did you know that one out of every seven books sold last year was written by Stephanie Meyer?”), react with surprise. Recently, I’ve had a few conversations where the person I was talking to just never reacted to what I said. I was trying to be all insightful and interesting, and these two people reacted as though everything I said was completely obvious and dull. It was unsatisfying.

Now, what to do if a conversation is just not working, and there’s no way to use the “Excuse me, I need to go get something to drink” line? Recently, at a dinner party, the guy sitting on my right side was clearly very bored by me. He explained to me at length about how happiness didn’t really exist, but after setting me straight on that question didn’t want to talk about it anymore, and after a few failed attempts at other topics, after an awkward pause in the conversation (my fault as much as his), he said, “Um, so where are you from?” It was such a listless, uninspired effort that I leaned over, put my hand on his arm, and said meanly, “Now, Paul, surely we can do better than that!” and changed the conversation. (It is moments like that that make me happy that I basically gave up drinking.)

So what can you do when the conversation is such a struggle?

7. A friend argues that you should admit it! “We’re really working hard, aren’t we?” or “It’s frustrating—I’m sure we have interests in common, but we’re having a difficult time finding them.” Clearly this is a desperate measure, but my friend insists that it works. I’ve never had the gumption to try it, I have to admit.

Pickens, Experts: Triple-Digit Oil Price Coming

After surging to a record high of $147 last July, oil prices plunged to $37 near year-end, thanks to the economic slump.

Now they are back above $60, and experts say the rally has only just begun.

The same factors that drove prices up last year could return quickly, Prof. James Hamilton of the University of California, San Diego told Congress this week. He cites slumping global production and explosive Chinese demand.

“If demand from China and elsewhere returns to its previous rate of growth, it will not be too long before the same calculus that produced the oil price spike of 2007-08 will be back to haunt us again," Hamilton told the Congress.

Daniel Yergin, the dean of oil economists, pointed out in his testimony that global demand has now fallen back to 2005 levels.

"Demand shock has completely given way to recession shock," he says. "What had seemed unthinkable to many—declines in global demand—have become reality."

But that can change in a hurry, Yergin explains.

"As the economy picks up, spare capacity will start to erode, and the oil market could tighten again in the first half of the next decade," he says.

"The result could be another adverse shock to the U.S. economy and global energy security."

Legendary oil man T. Boone Pickens agrees. He told Fox News last week, “You're going to be back to $75 oil by the end of the year — and $200 per barrel within five years.”


Pickens is half right, oil will go to 200 bucks, six dollars a gallon, it will crush the economy. Oil in today's dollars will collapse to 10 dollars. That might in nominal terms be 400 dollars.

Don’t let the stock market’s 30 percent-plus rally over the last six weeks fool you, says superstar investor Jim Rogers.

Equity prices are overvalued, he says.

“I’m not buying shares,” Rogers told CNBC. “The bottom will probably come later this year, next year, who knows when.”

And why should stocks drop? Because governments have "flooded the world with money," he says.

In the United States and other countries, the problem is too much consumption and too much debt, Rogers explains. But governments and central banks are trying to solve that problem with more the same.

This “defies belief" and won’t work, he says.

"I mean … you give me five or six trillion dollars, I'll show you a very good time, there's no question about that."

And what should you buy if not stocks? Commodities, Rogers says.

"Fundamentals for General Motors are not getting better. Fundamentals for Citibank are not getting better,” he points out.

“I can think of very few industries in the world where the fundamentals are getting better. But the fundamentals of commodities are getting better, full stop."

Rogers’ favorite commodities include the agriculture sector and silver.

Rogers isn’t alone in his views on stocks and commodities. As for stocks, hedge fund manager Doug Kass tells CNBC a “vicious correction is in store.”

On the commodities front, Bill O’Neill, former head of commodity research at Merrill Lynch, tells Moneynews.com, “With all the uncertainty around the globe, commodities as an alternative asset will be attractive.”

As you prepare to watch the Obama administration destroy what is left of the once-mighty U.S. automobile industry, you might wish to ponder this little history lesson, complete with a fun quiz, that a friend sent me.

Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. He promised:

1.) That participation in the Program would be completely voluntary,

2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual incomes into the Program,

3.) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year,

4.) That the money the participants put into the independent “Trust Fund” rather than into the General operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program, and,

5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income.

Which of these promises was kept? While you ponder that, here’s the quiz:

Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the independent “Trust” fund and put it into the General fund so that Congress could spend it?

A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the democratically controlled House and Senate.

Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?

I think at least on this front Pres Obama is doing well. I'm sure it frustrates those who voted for him. He is a flip flopper but in this case it's OK with me.

This revolution won’t be stopped, and our country won’t be rescued, by the Republicans in Washington. This isn’t because they lack the votes. It’s because most of them are careerist hacks who’ve been playing footsie with the Democrats for too long; with very few exceptions they lack the intellectual firepower to articulate the present danger, and the political courage to stand up to this Administration and really fight. But for the absence of frock coats and pince-nez glasses, these Republicans in Washington remind me of those bumbling Weimar Republic politicians in Berlin who never grasped where Hitler and the Nazis were going until it was too late to stop them, or of those hapless Mensheviks in Moscow’s Duma who let themselves be tossed into history’s dustbin by Lenin and his Bolsheviks. (Yes, of course I realize it’s explosive to keep bringing up the Nazis and the Bolsheviks in an essay about the Democrats. I’m not doing this to be incendiary; I’m doing this to be accurate.)

We need to launch a counter-offensive, so to speak, and the place to start is at the local level. Working with our county and state political parties when we can—or working around them when we must—our objective will be to elect as many people as we can to public office who understand what a democracy is and how the free market works. This will include city council members, county commissioners, school board members, judges, sheriffs and even members of the local parks commission. With the strength and political momentum their elections will provide, we can surge to the state level and then—before it’s too late—take back the power in Washington DC.

The alternative to launching this kind of peaceful and political counter-attack is horrific. Right now sales of guns and ammunition are rising sharply. This reflects an intuitive grasp by grass-roots Americans of what history teaches may lie ahead. It was only after the Nazis had secured their grip on power in Germany, and only after the Bolsheviks had seized control of Russia, that they set out to disarm and destroy the vast numbers of ordinary citizens who - to the astonishment and fury of the revolutionaries—just wouldn’t go along.

Liberals believe that they’re compassionate, but only with other people’s money. They tie themselves in knots trying to come up with valid reasons why terrorists hate the United States, but they never give a moment’s thought to whether the people who dislike them might have a point. They pat themselves on the back for helping minorities, but never stop to consider that liberal policies have done more damage to black Americans in the last fifty years than the KKK could have done in a millennium. Somehow, stunning hypocrisies of this sort, which are too numerous to recount without doing a whole other column, never seem to be bother anyone on the Left.

6) “Trust yourself. You know more than you think you do.”—Benjamin Spock: It’s great to have a healthy self-image, but there’s not much to be said for thinking you’re smarter than the collective wisdom and traditions passed down through human history just because you happen to read the Daily Kos.

About Torture

Ms Pelosi's lies about her knowledge of Torture or not has led to a discussion about torture: (waterboarding isn't torture, irritating, but not torture, torture must leave permanent scars and disfigurement, if it's torture, you'll know it).

Charles Krauthammer knows a little about pain (permanently set in a wheelchair) writes pretty well about the whole debate.

I don't like torture, wish it never happened, but if you put my family in a circumstance where I believe that to save them from certain death I have to torture you, you are in big trouble.

To do othewise is unhuman and savage, like eating your own young. I know that's harsh, but I don't think we really understand until we have been there. All the pontificating and theories will go right out the window when any of you or I am faced with the choice between inflicting bodily harm to save my family or not. I don't have to think about it. The choice is clear for those who think clearly.

Cementing the Bush Legacy

George W. Bush must be smiling. He’s not talking in public about the Obama administration, but he can’t be displeased: his harshest critic is adopting most of his national security policies, albeit grudgingly and with a whole lot of spin. But not even the White House spinners can conceal what has happened.

The New York Times has figured it out:

Faced with the choice of signaling an unambiguous break with the policies of the Bush era, or maintaining some continuity with its practices, the president has begun to come down on the side of taking fewer risks with security, even though he is clearly angering the liberal elements of his political base. . . But the bottom line is that Mr. Obama’s course corrections have real-life consequences. Mr. Bush kept saying that he wanted to close Guantánamo Bay but could not find an effective replacement for it. So he never acted. Mr. Obama began with that action, and now discovers it is more difficult to accomplish than it seemed a few months ago.

The Obama team is loathe to admit this. So they dress up the decision to utilize military tribunals as a entirely different sort of approach than Bush. Rubbish. Like most observers who bother to look at the details and compare, the Wall Street Journal editors aren’t buying Obama’s tale that his are any different than Bush’s. Nevertheless the editors conclude:

Mr. Obama deserves credit for accepting that the civilian courts are largely unsuited for the realities of the war on terror. He has now decided to preserve a tribunal process that will be identical in every material way to the one favored by Dick Cheney — and which, contrary to the narrative that Democrats promulgated for years, will be the fairest and most open war-crimes trials in U.S. history. Meanwhile, friends should keep certain newspaper editors away from sharp objects. Their champion has repudiated them once again.

Perhaps the key test will be when that deadline on closing Guantanamo comes along and there is still no adequate alternative. ”Can’t close Guantanamo” is going to be pretty hard to spin as anything but confirmation of Bush’s detention policy.

The Left is apoplectic about all this. And conservatives are conflicted. (Does Obama get “credit”? Is this a change of heart or political convenience?) But it doesn’t really matter what Obama’s motives are. The reality is that on one national security decision after another he has come to conclusions strikingly similar to his predecessor. That likely makes George Bush happy. But more importantly, it makes us all safer.

Sometimes when people ask me why we moved to Illinois from North Dakota I often say it was the because of the weather. Here are two charts side by side to tell if my move was a good one. The one to the right is Fargo North Dakota...Note that the average temp in May is Fifty Degrees

The one at the left is the weather in St Charles IL. The average temp in May is 62 degrees. The average temp for the months of June and July is 70 degrees.

There's not a great deal of difference except the duration. It's worth the move.

Rentals are amplifying the housing collapse

CNBC ran a brief segment on the number of people who have decided to rent homes and apartments rather than buy them. The point of the reporting was simple. People who need to move out of their houses sometimes cannot sell them. Instead, they rent wherever they have moved and hope to sell their homes later when the market improves.

In addition, people who cannot sell their homes often rent them out to others to help cover mortgage and maintenance costs.

What has been lost in the review of home buying and renting habits is that some people who own a home will decide never to buy one again. The reaction to losing so much money on what is the largest investment many people will ever have will be, in many cases that they will not come back to the real estate market again. People who have suffered through anxious months not knowing if they will be able to pay their mortgages may decide that it is not an experience they want to repeat.

There are currently 3.4 million homes for sale in America. The average prices of these homes drops each month. Neither lower interest rates nor better prices are bringing buyers back into the market. Too many people believe that the market has not made a bottom. No one wants to own real estate that could lose another 15% of its value.

The renter does not have to lose sleep over the issue of whether his home will fall further in value. He does not have to worry about an ARM with an interest rate that might be set higher. Renters do not even have to worry about major repairs, the great enemy of the homeowner.

Renting was considered a fool’s way of living just a decade ago. A renter could not get equity in a property like the one that his homeowner friends had. A new house could double in value in ten years, offering the owner ready access to capital, a way to educate children and pay for vacations. With very few people willing to believe that those benefits are still a part of owning a home, the incentives to buy one have dwindled.

Realtors believe that the economy is at the root of the reason that people will not buy homes. That is true to some extent. People who are worried about their jobs or have seen their stock market holdings lose half of their values are not likely to be in the market. But, the shift may be more profound than that. Renting could become the norm for many people, especially those who cannot foresee a future when real estate is an asset which can rapidly increase in value again.

Liberal Taliban issues fatwa against Miss California

Not even Dick Cheney can incite the blood-curdling rage of liberals at the sight of a sexy evangelical Christian. Paula Jones, Katherine Harris, Michele Bachmann, Sarah Palin and, most recently, Miss California, Carrie Prejean, have all come under a frenzy of attacks from liberals.

Christians are supposed to be fat, balding sweaty little men with bad complexions. It's liberals who are supposed to be the sexy ones. (I know that from watching "The West Wing" and all movies starring Julia Roberts.)

But sadly for liberals, in real life, the fat, balding sweaty little guy with the bad complexion is Perez Hilton and the smoking-hot babe is Carrie Prejean.

This apparent contradiction incites violent anger in liberals, triggering their famous "flight or flight" response. So liberals are, once again, launching furious attacks on a beautiful Christian in a fit of pique similar to the one directed at Joan of Arc.

First, the Miss USA contest held a press conference to announce that Prejean had breast implants. Take a Christian position in public and Satan's handmaidens will turn all your secrets into front-page news.

Plumb the depths of our in-the-tank news industry with "A Slobbering Love Affair: The True (and Pathetic) Story of the Torrid Romance Between Barack Obama and the Mainstream Media"

Next, a photographer released a single cheesecake photo of Prejean. This prompted liberal reporters who have never met a Christian to proclaim that Christians were outraged by the photo. Liberals believe abortion is a sacrament, but smoking, wearing short skirts and modeling lingerie are mortal sins. (And if wearing women's underwear is a basis for being disqualified from the pageant, that's the end of Perez Hilton's judging career.)

Then on Monday some genuine "semi-nude" photos were released. These were not what we'd call appropriate for a Christian. In a curiously similar attack, the left's final attempt to destroy Paula Jones was to lure her into appearing naked in Penthouse magazine
. Oh well.

Christians aren't people who believe they are without sin; they're people who know they're sinners and are awestruck by God's grace in sending his only Son to take the punishment they deserve.

This is in contradistinction to liberals, all of whom believe they're on a fast track to heaven on the basis of being "basically good" people – and also believe that anyone who disagrees with that theological view is evil.

Finally (so far, anyway), reporters gleefully released the divorce records of Prejean's parents. Because when you want the truth, what is more reliable than angry accusations traded in the middle of an acrimonious divorce?

Liberals used the divorce papers to argue that Prejean had some deep-seated psychological disturbance causing her to oppose gay marriage. Symptoms of this debilitating illness include a belief in some sort of "god" and a reverence for the Bible.

It's not as if Prejean's special talent in the Miss USA contest was to perform an opposite-sex marriage. (Or, as the president and I call it, "marriage.") She didn't even volunteer her "controversial" views on marriage. Rather, she was asked for her opinion on gay marriage and gave it – in an answer wrapped in so many layers of sugar it took 10 minutes to get to the point.

"Well, I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one way or the other. We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. You know what, in my country, in my family, I do believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman, no offense to anybody out there. But that's how I was raised, and I believe that it should be between a man and a woman."

What a vicious hate-monger! Any second there I was expecting her to bust out a "by golly!" or an "oh my gosh!" Angry gay-marriage supporters should be happy they didn't get my version of that answer. It contains some terms you won't find in your Bible.

Liberals wouldn't attack James Dobson with the amount of bile they've directed at a 21-year-old beauty contestant. It's not just Christianity – it's women liberals hate.

From Jean-Paul Sartre, Pablo Picasso and Bertrand Russell, who treated women – mostly their mistresses – like dogs, to Teddy Kennedy and Bill Clinton in our own day, liberals are ferocious misogynists. They share Muslims' opinion of women, differing only to the extent that liberals also support a women's right to have an abortion and to perform lap dances.

You'd be better off in a real burqa than under the authority of a liberal American male.

I'm not sure we needed a psychological profile of Prejean to figure out why she holds the same position on gay marriage as: the president, the vice president, the secretary of state, Bill Clinton, John Kerry, John Edwards and his mistress, and the vast majority of the American people.

But what is crying out for an explanation is why every bubblehead TV news anchorette from a nice, churchgoing red state ends up adopting the political views of Karl Marx.

From Katie Couric on CBS to Norah O'Donnell on MSNBC, the whole stable of TV anchorettes weirdly have the exact same politics as their liberal masters. It's the ideological burqa women are required to wear to work in the mainstream media. As with a conventional burqa, it enforces conformity and severely restricts the vision.

The only way to protect yourself is to do the liberal male's bidding, as the bubblehead anchorettes do, or stand on the rock of Christianity.

Now, another beautiful Christian has thrown off the liberal burqa, thereby inciting mass hysteria throughout the liberal establishment. Prejean doesn't care. She is blazing across the sky, as impotent nose-pickers jockey for a piece of her reflected light by hurling insults at her.
