Nail on the HEAD

A commenter on the previous post caused me to read AGAIN the last paragraph of Pastor O's missive. In reading it I was cut to the heart. I sometimes feel like a fraud and unworthy.

This one hit me. I'll repost it all alone for your consideration. After reading it again, I printed it out in 36 point type on one page and posted it on my wall. I needed to hear this.

We are in trouble when we fail to be a voice for God where He has placed or sent us; when we are not setting the right example to others who look up to us; when we fail to seek God for deliverance from our known sins, pretending as if all is well and when we take the enemy of our soul for granted as if he is always a fool.

The enemy is not where you think it is. It may be that your version of Christianity has some details wrong. You cannot take the Bible literally unless you take it all literally and you know as well as I do that there are parts that cannot be. So it may be that compassion to gays is better than discrimination against them. It may be that the conservation fostered by advocates of global warming are forms of stewardship for the earth God gave us. It may be that the empowerment that girls get from girls socuts is a good thing. When you rail and rant AGAINST things, you may be dismissing a greater good toward humanity over a minor detail. You are at your best, Gene, when you advocate for good things rather than when you tear down what you perceive to be bad things. Like my dad said "When you can't say anything good, don't say anything at all." A corrallary would be in you can turn a message into a possitive thng and edit out the negative, why not do so? For example, you cold well have touted the alternate girls' group without the negativity toward girl scouts. Mightn't an ambitious young girl join and learn from both? It is possible to advocate for thing you like without tearing down others' choices that may serve them just as well.

meow-sounds like someone needs to go back to bed then get up on the other side

omidiran is spot on - what he says is we're not what we say we are, and if you are, then youve got nothing to worry about

would you stop your kids from running out in traffic or warn them to stop

potically correct is lukewarm
same goes for christians

to first anonymous: there are some actions and behavior which Truth (The Bible, inspired by God)
does not advocate, but in fact spells out in terms which you would say, is a "railing and ranting against". Your argument, in some respects, is an argument against God. Yes, there are things we should speak "good" about, but whatever element in those activities need to be amended, changed, should be spoken to. Not everything is "good". Yes, 'compassion" toward gays sounds like a nice thing to do, but compassion does not necesarily mean advocating or accepting that sexual lifestyle. Jesus had compassion on the woman who was in adultery, but upon forgiving her said, "go, and sin no more". I can have compassion upon the gay who is afflicted with AIDS, caring for the person in his/her physical needs and ministering spiritually with the Word of the Gospel. I can have compassion in ministry to the person who has gonorrhea or syphilis, or the person imprisoned for stealing or robbery, but I don't condone the wrong............anonymous 3

who gets to pick what's a sin and what's not? you saying a gay lifestyle is a sin is you taking on power you don't have. you pick and choose among the words there in the bible - and you say some of it is outdated and irrelevant and you choose not to follow it literally - but then you say others like the snippets about homosexuality are real. why do you get to chose? one test of sin is whether it hurts another person. murder does. stealing does. adultery does. two gays in a relationship hurts no one. except you with your quaint sqeamishness. eventually, all your anti-gay rhetoric and gay-hating will be outdated, yes, and it will cease to be followed by a vast majority of ethical and moral people, but in the meantime, you do great harm with it. open your mind and move on to real issues.

The apostle Paul, by inspiration of the Holy Spirit of God said that sexual sin is a sin against one's own body. (1 Corinth. 6:18). The claim that some sexual actions 'hurt nobody' is wrong. The Bible says they hurt yourself and your soul. Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. "you are not YOUR OWN; you are bought with a price". ..anonymous 3

That is the lamest piece of circular reasoning I have heard in a long time. How does it 'hurt yourself'? You have no idea what you are talking about. What defines it as SIN to MAKE it hurt yourself??? You hate and you continue to justify your hate and you will be proven wrong in the end.

Read the terxt, man! Maybe you don't have a Bible. The text says, "it is a sin against one's own body". This is not ciruclar reasoning. It's telling what God is telling.> A person can be so blinded to the truth that HE is the one going in circles!

A person can be so blinded by hatred, prejudice, ignorance, and arrogance that he finds reason after reason to be mean to other people.

what do you mean, that I'm mean? Then God is mean., And you are mean to defy and deny God's word of truth.

IF your god were actually real, he WOULD be mean - lot of death and descruction in your book of tales - and those of you who do cruel and harmful things to other people in his name are wrong. you can call ME all the names you want, in childish playground manner, and you can hide behind that book all you want, but denying people the same rights you have based on your ancient wrong contradictory book and your blind faith that defies current know reality is wrong. but you will not ever change. you will go arrogantly to the grave beleiving you were right in the evil you did to other humans in your discrimination and spreading of your hate to others. and chatting with you folks is hopeless and wading thru gene's wordiness to get his is boring me, so have a nice life. do some actual reading on the internet if you are ever curious, or enjoy your blissful blindness.
