It's very interesting that people who don't know much about God question that ancient gods and goddesses have influence. In this case, I believe it's important that they are educated on false gods and goddesses.
Here's the facts:
- There is no other God but God the Father as revealed in the Bible, BUT, There are other gods.
- Other gods are those things that we submit ourselves to in worship or adoration.
- Other gods are those things that hold themselves up (strongholds) against the knowledge of the True God
- When God said in the ten commandments, Thou Shalt have no other gods before me, He was saying that in fact there are other gods.
- All the gods of history from Europe, Asia, Africa and the uttermost parts of the earth, gods of mythology, gods of history, gods of Ancient Rome are gods in fact when that test is administered. .
- Those gods are identifiable by the sense of the spirit behind them. Each god carries an idolatry that takes away from, replaces and counterfeits worship of the true God.
- While the gods and goddesses of old are just an image of wood, stone or some other symbol there is a demon spirit that is behind the worship of those symbols.
- That demon spirit wants to divert attention away from the worship of the True God to some other false god.
- The devil is the enemy of God and his scheme is to mask seemingly innocent activities into idol worship.
I said that Gaia is a goddess. She is. She is a false god but she is real in the spiritual sense. As are all other gods or goddesses people put themselves in slavery to.
Even in the Church of Jesus there are people in slavery to false gods. I wrote some time ago about the fact that many, maybe most Churches in America are filled with people who worship at the altar of the demon spirit of the false god Baal. I didn't get much objection to that. The fact that I am getting some flack on this means that I have hit a nerve.
Outside the Church demon inspired false god and goddess worship is even more rampant. We as Christians must identify the false gods and goddesses and the spirits behind them. We must reject the worship of these demon inspired dieitiys.
I want to steward the world in which I live. I don't want to worship it.
That's the problem with the demon spirit Gaia, it has replaced stewardship with worship.
Thou shalt have no other gods before Me saith the Lord, for I am a Jealous God.
I think He's not kidding. I wouldn't go there.

"Idolatry" takes many forms, of course, along with various actions, and mind sets. I know soemthing of W.African "idolatry", having lived among some of its adherents way back in the 50's and 60's. Many people are 'animistic', believing in some kind of "spirit" and "spirits" . The resulting actions of holding on to fetishes and trusting in the "good luck" they give are found in many cultures, even in America. though many Americans do not believe that the 'spirit" of a "witch" or "wizard" can roam around at night to inflict some harm on a person, yet many people in western cultures are animistic, trusting in 'good luck' charms, etc. What is this but the opoposite of trust in the revealed God of the Scriptures, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? And the Scriptrue calls this idolatry. Following the horoscope is nothing new; it is the ancient practice which the Word of God through the prophets warned the people of God about. For instance, Jeremiah 7:18-19;Acts 7:42-43. It was a sin of trusting in the creation rather than the Creator. This is basically, the form of all idoaltry, trusting in something or in someone, be it animate or inanimate, other than the only true God.
It is true that St. Paul says in 1 Cor. 8:4 that "an idol is nothing at all in the world, and that there is no God but one" and goes on to say, "even if there are so-called gods....yet for us there is but one God, the Father from whom all things came and for whom we live and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and though whom we live". It is the devil, Satan, who is REAL, who gets people to trust in 'idols', and also to trust in creation and the things of creation; even those who do not trust in "Geia" but trust in creation rather than the Creator are guilty of idolatry. H.A.H.
