Mark Batterson had someone doing Coke (not the drink, the drug) in Church today. We had a young lady try to commit suicide last night here.
Somehow it all seems normal. What's it all about if we aren't ministering to the addicted and suicidal?
I don't know how, I feel inadequate. But I know someone who IS up to the task. I want both of these folks to find the answer to the question they are asking. The answer is Jesus.
Sometimes we have been accused of answering questions no one is asking. I think they are, just not in words.

People are looking for answers. The addict, the divorced, the broken, those in fear, etc. The real question is the church actually giving them The Answer?
I used to go to an "almost" church. They seemed to have nice people, good music, they liked to pray, the sermons were good, etc. But then at the end of building up to a climax, they'd say "see you next week" and everyone would leave. The thing they forgot week after week was offering people to start a relationship with Jesus. That's the climax of a service. Not the sermon, not the music, not the prayers. It's called tranformation. Most every week there's someone in church who's at the end of their rope and are just waiting for The Answer. Don't cut the rope short.
What people are looking for are real people with real answers to real problems. They don't want to be looked down on or want a handout: they want a hand up. Most of us have a past that includes some not so good stuff. That all gets erased from our past when we received grace. God allows our past to be used for a future. If someone comes into your life and they're going through something you've been through, and God raised you to a new level through it, then for the sake of Jesus reach out that hand and touch someone going through it. A foolish man repeats his mistakes. A wise man learns from someone elses.
And while we're at it, let's stop bickering about small petty stuff. Let's not give people a reason not to ask "hey, I want what you have". Reach out to that person who needs Jesus the most. Maybe it's you...
One last thing. You probably know someone going through tough times or someone you haven't talked to in a long time that could use a word. What's stopping you?
It all starts with the first step.
