I score about the same as Pope John Paul II. I could do worse.

I work with Mexicans. I had 2 in my house working on Friday. They are hard working and respectful. I hope they thought the same of me.
One of the two men did not speak a word of English. They seem to have a low opinion of Americans. The chart below is a Zogby Poll just released. They think we are weak, stupid and a lot of other things the poll reveals. We look pretty bad in their eyes.
Even if we don't agree with them, this may explain why they don't want to be like us. Why they don't learn our language. Why they hang on to their culture so tenuously.
Mexican culture looks down on us and doesn't want to lower itself to be like Americans. Don't believe it? Read the results of this poll.

Trial by Jury, a precious civil right. Except its not. Its not right.
This would be local news but its now becoming national. Here in Illinois the state slogan among politicians is, We can do anything if you have enough money to pay us off. Its a political lap dance. Pay money they dance and degrade themselves as much as you want them to.
Our last REPUBLICAN governor who single-handedly destroyed the republican party in Illinois and who used a diversion factor like outlawing the death penalty which endeared him to liberals has been accused of fraud.
Now theres not much doubt that the man is sleazy. Crooked. ETC!
Hes a politician and hes from Illinois. Nuff said. When I moved here from North Dakota 20 years ago the level of graft out in the open was like a third world country. Its now only like a 2-2 ½ world country today.
And as a result we have no republican party in Illinois any longer. Its a pity. I digress.
Whats the issue is Ryan is on trial. This trial regarding graft has been going on for over 6 months. The trial is over. The jury has it. Deliberations have begun and are now in their 9th day.
Suddenly it becomes known that there is a problem with one or two of the jurors. They are given an 85 question quiz before they are interrogated to be put on the jury.
A couple of the questions are:
#75
Have you had any particularly good or bad experience of contact with the Illinois Secretary of States office of any other State Governmental agency? Y/N
Ryan had been Secretary of State before he became Governor. But, what kind of a question is that. EVER? ANY bad experience?
Or how about this doozey:
#82
Have you or has any closed friend or relative ever been charged with or accused of a crime? Y/N
Relationship Crime(s) Charged Outcome of the Case
Who could answer this question?
They want Jesus as a Juror. No wait, he was accused of a crime. NO GO.
So the upshot is after 6 months a potential for mistrial at worst and a potential for a restart of 9 days of deliberation is about to begin with an alternate.
The law does not require anyone to do a background check on these folks. My friend Rob Port could uncover the junk found in these two jurors backgrounds in 18 minutes flat.
And, WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE WHO CAN SIT ON THIS JURY FOR 6 MONTHS @ $40 per day plus travel.
I have a friend who owns a large company who was called for this case and almost made the Jury. He didnt. But, what if.
Who in the world or more important what kind of people end up on this jury. Government workers get their salary even if it goes 6 months. Thats a good deal for them at your expense.
So we have people with an axe to grind lying to get on and screw up the trial. Or we have bureaucrats.
Why not engage intelligent retired folks. They dont mind the distraction, they dont mind the money, they have wisdom of lifetimes of experience and they dont mind having something to do.
Thatll never work. Makes too much sense.
My conclusion is, our trial by jury system is out of whack and needs repair.
At least in Illinois.
I Know some of you hate it when I post something I read somewhere else. But sometimes it's really good. So, bear with me. This is worth the read. Jim Paluch is a writer/trainer from OHIO. I needed to give him attribution. Read the whole thing. It'll be good for your soul.

Character Is Destiny
Where does character begin? It begins in our thoughts, in what we think. Ask yourself these questions: If I were invisible--able to do anything I wanted without consequences or repercussions--would I be kind or unkind? Honest or dishonest? Respectful or disrespectful? Reliable or unreliable? Your answers would say a lot about you as a person. These questions cause you to hold a mirror up and look at the inner you. Once we are honest with ourselves and understand the inner person . . . then we can begin to build or reshape the habits that determine our character and then ultimately our destiny.
It has been said that the farmer who cheats is only cheating himself--put off mending the fence today and youll be chasing livestock tomorrow. It comes down to a choice: to do what is most convenient or to do the right thing. Are you doing what is easiest, most enjoyable, or most profitable-or are you doing what is right? Sometimes they can be one in the same, but, when they are not, then we put our character to the test. Though most people would never think of stealing someone elses property, they might think it is all right to give less than their best to their work, their family or even themselves. Think about the challenges you face each day to choose between what is convenient and what is right. It is the clear choice between evading responsibility and accepting responsibility. The habit of accepting responsibility paves the way to strong character and a great destiny.
Vince Lombardi said, You dont do what is right once in a while, but all the time. Success is a habit. Winning is habit. Your daily commitment to exercising your ethical muscles to the point that doing what is right is just a natural habit will reap incredible rewards for you. You work at character just as an athlete works at refining a skill in their chosen sport. The greatest athletes are never done improving on their skills. There is always a little more to be done in refining our character and developing the habit of doing the right thing. As a leader, your commitment to doing the right thing is setting an example to those that have chosen to follow you.
Albert Schweitzer said, Example is not the main thing in life; it is the only thing. What example is your team following? Your family? Your friends? I have often said to leaders, "Your crew is a direct reflection of you." It goes beyond this . . . your life is a reflection of you. Your character is your destiny. Create your destiny with the next action you take . . . do the right thing.

"I desire so to conduct the affairs of this administration that if at the end, when I come to lay down the reins of power, I have lost every other friend on earth, I shall at least have one friend left, and that friend shall be down inside me." - Abraham Lincoln "Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired, and success achieved." "Fame is a vapor, popularity an accident, riches take wing, and only character endures." "Character is that which reveals moral purpose, exposing the class of things a man chooses and avoids." The number one cloning request is from parents who have lost a child, particularly older children. They just want to duplicate the lost Teen. This will happen soon on a regular basis and will be very disappointing for the parents. The new baby will look just like the dead child but will be different somehow. “Why can’t you be like your clone?” And will that clone kid ever be spoiled.
Children are being born to be donors. Parents have a child with kidney problems, bone cancer needing a marrow transplant, or a liver problem needing part of a liver. So, grow your own. Hundreds of In-Vitro embryos are produced and the doctor does an analysis of each one until he finds one that is a perfect tissue match for the sick child. That embryo is implanted, baby born and as soon as it is up to a decent tissue bearing age the suitable organs etc are harvested for the ailing sibling. I guess they let the 90% kid live. Such as it is. And, if he or she should develop problems with the remaining kidney we can always just create another donor babe.
There is a thriving market in embryo adoption. Since no one knows what to do with all these unused embryos and since it’s against the law to stem cell them (hooray) they are traded (and sold) to infertile couples, single moms, and lesbians.
I received a well-meaning response to the Old Tiger post below.
He quoted the Sermon on the Mount. OOPS! I have taught the Beatitudes. If you ever took the course from me you would quickly discover my take on them is very different from the pantywaist Jesus most mainline denominations teach. The Jesus I live and die for is the true and living God, mighty in battle, doing wonders, glorious in holiness, pulling down strongholds and victorious over evil. He is the substance of the warriors armor I wear every day.
Just so you are properly oriented here is a better way to see what seems to be at first glance a nice little teaching from a nice little Jesus with a soft impotent message, I need to help you. His message is a call to war:
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Verse 3)
You recognize you have no strength in yourself, you know you are needy, but you know in whom you have believed. You are poor in Spirit. More of Him, less of you.
Blessed are the meek: for they shall posses the land. (Verse 4)
Meekness is great power under control. Moses was the most powerful man on the face of the earth but God called him meek. Not weak. Meek and submitted to His purposes, controlled but determined to know and do right. Jesus instructed those to whom he gave talents and power to "...occupy till I come." Luke 19:13b. Sounds like we are not only to take the land but become an occupying force as well. Sounds like war.
Blessed are they who mourn: for they shall be comforted. (Verse 5)
Sin causes the righteous to mourn. Their own sin and the successes Satan has over the world. They are best comforted when sin, death and the devil are crushed under their feet. Romans 16:20 The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill. (Verse 6)
Justice (Righteousness) is making things right. Making things as they should be. When crooked and twisted things exist the hunger for more of Jesus causes righteousness to reign in our hearts. Its that lack of hunger and thirst that causes complacency and lukewarmness. Be HOT or cold or vomited out of His mouth. No middle Ground.
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. (Verse 7)
Mercy is sown and reaped. If we allow mercy to control our vision we will see that sometimes the most merciful thing we can do is allow God to work in other peoples lives without our well meaning intervention. We need to understand the nature of mercy and when external mercy is unmerciful.
Blessed are the clean of heart: for they shall see God. (Verse 8)
Clean (Pure) in heart means that we have nothing against others or ourselves. We understand that our deeds or righteousness are as filthy rags. Our motives and intents must be lined up with the word of God. We cannot confront evil if we harbor hidden sin. Seeing God in all things means we dont see man's reason. Our purposes and intent must be pure.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. (Verse 9)
How is peace waged? By winning the war. Warring against injustice, warring against sin, warring against the lies of the enemy. Being a peacemaker does not involve compromise. Peacemakers understand that when a person is at odds with the Love of God he is not at peace. So, when we bring a person to Jesus and them teach them to do battle with the sin and the attacks of the enemy we are peacemakers. Peace is won thru victory not surrender.
Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Verse 10)
This badly translated passage can still stand. If you go to war, expect to be shot at. Sometimes you will be hit. Sometimes you will be wounded. You might even be killed. But yours is the kingdom of heaven. You will win immediately under persecution, eventually under persecution, or ultimately. Its all about the Kingdom of Heaven. Persecution and the blood of martyrs builds a strong church. Look at China. Persecution and martyrdom has caused tremendous victory. They have entered the Kingdom.
Have we, have you?
This teaching demonstrates that the beatitudes are about living the victorious Christian life. Victory is the result of wars won. So, next time you hear someone preach on this passage, listen for the sound of cannon fire.
Then run to the battle!
A Pastor Friend of Mine quoted a line from a movie which I quoted in a post earlier. The fact is, old tigers are dangerous, they have nothing to lose, they are fierce, they are abandoned. They know the predictable tactics of the enemy.
